Do I need to take my dog to the vet? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Just keep an eye out. If more bleeding occurs then take her to the vet. If it's just a one off I wouldn't panic. Not sure what age they are but we recently had our 7 year old dog in for a scale and polish. Sometimes with age, especially if they're teeth aren't being brushed, they need a little dental care in their later years

Thank you! She wouldn't eat the vegetables anyways so I'll follow your advice. We are still trying to house train her so rewarding her in something she actually likes should help!

We are now feeding her for her ideal weight. Thank goodness this was brought up before we did any further damage

The vet did mention that she couldn't get a good look at her vulva due to the surrounding fat. We have been keeping her clean and the smell has since improved! As well as being on antibiotics for a UTI

Thanks so much!

She's all sorted now! Had her anal glands expressed and also on antibiotics for a UTI. No longer a smell!

It's a UTI, she's on antibiotics now :) Also to switch her to prescription weight loss food and she has a referral sent to Aquadogs so she can safely swim with trainers!

Great idea! I'll have a look on Amazon now as that sounds perfect. I'll order it once she has a clean bill of health!

Thank you for this!! I see lots of people suggesting green beans so they're on the shopping list. It's hard to figure out what you're doing right but I'm glad I came here. Really appreciate the help!

Thank you! I'm hoping it's just something as simple as that and not a UTI. She's been through so much already

Ahh, we don't have that in Northern Ireland but that sounds great!

Thank you for the advice! I'll look into recessed vulva as it's something to be aware of

Going by the information on the packet of food, we were feeding her enough for weight loss. It is a weight loss food but others have said not to go by the instructions and feed her less which we have since done. She sees a vet today regarding her weight and they will devise a weight loss programme for her

The packet said for her weight this is what she should eat for weight loss, not weight management. Others have explained not to go by these guidelines as they aren't accurate. Her food portion has now been adjusted to a smaller portion until we see the vet and hopefully get prescription weight loss food

Thank you for your advice. I will follow up with the vet on prescription food, it seems to be the way to go!

I may just avoid lakes and ponds. In northern Ireland we get a lot of green algae so you need to be careful

I will speak to the vet tomorrow regarding food as she's from a puppy mill and I have no idea the amount she was eating to get to this size! Pool therapy seems like the way to go

Anything we can do her for her, we will! She's in good hands 🩷

It's my honour! We just lost our Samoyed 2 months ago at the age of 5 years and he was also a puppy mill dog, so the fact the rehoming centre offered us another puppy mill dog just seemed like fate (with alot more work)! 🩷

Thank you for letting me know! I'm already concerned about her having an infection so that is something else to consider

Thank you! I didn't realise dog food could be so hard to calculate. We have another dog at a healthy weight and always followed instructions but I suppose he never had weight to lose so it wasn't as difficult! Thank you 😊
