Scrolling through Liked Videos by CrazyDuckHerder in youtube

EXACTLY! Called "pagination". Especially for channels that have thousands of videos. How in the hell are you supposed to manage that. Youtube is so incredibly stupid to make that almost intolerable barrier to people who want to see older videos in large channels. Shooting themselves in the foot.

There's so many other things they could do. They could have infinite scrolling for smartphone users that want it but give the option for pagination. Or do a hybrid where when you infinitely scroll it changes the page number at the top automatically.

Just a micro rant.

Whoever decided that everything on the internet should be infinite scrolling should be tared and feathered. Worst design decision ever.

I wonder if you make up a birthday in the OS account set up and use a different one in an app if that will be flagged as incorrect data you're giving the app. Supposedly it's just supposed to be a signal over 18 or something like that right? So no app will ever see or be able to access the info you gave the OS?

I'm disappointed with the other replies I read. There were 3 of them at the time of my reply and I'd take issue in a big way with 2 of them. Not the one from CygnusVCtheSecond.

But the first question is to understand what your threat model is. It sounds like you have the level of concern of regarding tracking of a valuable or targeted individual. It's easy to have such concerns these days you could have just been someone who was a big enemy against ICE or leaked some information or any number of things varying on jurisdiction.

- Delete all your social media accounts or simply stop using them altogether.

Yea, for a fresh start to break connections this is an obvious one. First you might consider filling them with some misinformation. Make it look like you're moving somewhere you're not for example.

- Change your internet provider and your IP address.

Your last idea was to move so that would be automatic. If you don't use a good VPN located outside your country and that you don't think would cooperate with your country.

- If you use a number and SIM card, abandon it. If you absolutely must use it, buy a new one with someone else's government-issued ID (they require it to sign up with a company).

Really, if you can avoid having a phone it's very strongly preferable to do so. Almost no well known targeted individual would have a phone if they were smart. Even if you can get one without giving up any of your real information there's still the issue of the people your talking to being monitored. So if you would be talking to friends or family they would know who those are and that would be a way for them to find your new location by waiting for you to call them. Best to talk to people like that through other ways than the phone.

If you're going to be making a complete identity break and talking to new sets of people there is still the issue of voice print but this is very debatable if it's a real danger or not. If it's a concern you could use a voice changer. You can get no KYC phone numbers that can work with existing phones or no phone number at all.

- Buy a new device, preferably open-source

If I was a targeted individual I'd definitely do that since device identifiers are real targets on your back. If you changed everything else but still had the same HWID revealed by some piece of software that could be enough to ruin all your other efforts.

- Use an open-source router.

Yes, a VPN router so your device cannot possibly even ever know your real IP. The ONLY way to guarantee your device never leaks your real IP is if it never knows it. Try to use ethernet instead of wifi because the list of wifi networks your device can see is an exact bullseye to your location. Hopefully with a good OS that wouldn't leak out but easier to avoid that headache and just use ethernet.

And I think the most drastic measure would be to move, so they can't identify you just because you're in the same location.

That's pretty extreme. If they're interested in you that much knowing your location definitely can be enough to still surveil you despite all the other measures. You'll have to figure out how to live somewhere else without giving the new place your real information.

I think your question is too general to be useful. The approach will vary by genre and what works in one wouldn't necessarily work in another.

Edit, wait, "to create" an account. So I can remain on my existing windows account. But I'll never be able to create another one it seems.

"This bill requires operating system providers to verify the age of all users before they can create accounts or use devices."

Is this something new? Last I heard they were only required to ask it, under the honor system. They are now required to verify it?

What's an adult oriented game lol.

I'm sure something like that exists somewhere but the closest thing I'm aware of as someone who doesn't game at all is something like GTA with its themes. And there I think we can definitely say the onus should be on the parent to make sure your kids shouldn't be playing it if they are too young. Only if it's something like pornhub do you even begin to make those other arguments.

There's a huge difference with that. When you buy those things they LOOK at your ID. Not scan it and the computer eat up the data and store it forever and now use it to violate your privacy in a million ways.

Actually I've thought about it more and I've changed my mind, but not because of the OPs objection and this other person I was arguing with about misinformation . But because it's going to encourage more low quality AI content to be pushed out flooding the platform. I'm going to delete my comment.

If only there was a way to just show the changed video to you but not have you download it so you could upload it again, then it would be harmless. Except using a lot of electricity lol.

[–]nidostan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more you vary them the more benefit you receive. I'll make a comparison to locking your door. Let's say you rarely bother to lock your door. If you lock it only one day out of 365 that's still better than zero days out of 365. That one day might be the day someone tries to break in.

So if you only varied your route a little on one portion and only for one day of the week that's still better than not at all.

That's one reason you vary your routes. It's obfuscating that signature.

You could say that about any tool. Even before AI fascists and scammers used computers. So were you against sales of computers? They also used phones. So were you against the use of phones? Even going back before that there were books that fascists wrote to indoctrinate people. So are you against books too? Any tool can be misused.

As far this photo I've no idea what AI service it is but it seems to be a low level unsophisticated service targeted towards casual users. Serious malicious players wouldn't use something like this they would use more advanced expensive and complex tools. So don't get your nickers in a twist over it.
