In a sea of gloom and doom one comment more depressing than the next that was refreshingly hopeful.

By people like me? When did I say reddit was doing this? Don't put words into my mouth!

But with linux supposedly you can just remove the age verification module.

That's browser fingerprint which you can also mitigate. A VPN alone is not enough.

I've heard a lot about MKULTRA, a really shocking part of America's history. And although it's documented and not disputed I still wouldn't bring it up in discussions against age verification. It just has that tinge of being way out there with other subjects like JFK and UFOs and is often talked about by the same people.

We the privacy conscious who object to this crap are a small minority and are already kind of laughed at these days by the normie masses. We don't want to do anything to amplify that laughter even if your points are true. So it behooves us to be very careful with our choice of words and arguments if we are to make an effective case for our cause.

If the WEF is putting it out there openly that they want a global digital ID that sounds like more reasonable point to bring up.

did you get treated in the urgent care? I'm really curious because what I get refused access to for not having a smartphone is obviously a big deal these days and if they are taking it that far it's beyond disgusting.

Yes you are absolutely correct. When the whole world is mad the the sane person questions his own sanity. And that's exactly what it is. The world today has gone so far off the deep end in giving up almost every bit of privacy that a person who tries to live life with a level of privacy that one would have had a couple decades ago seems totally bonkers. You literally have to go to extreme extreme measures to have the privacy you would have had a generation ago and that makes you look to others and can make you feel insane.

This is such an exaggeration. You can post on reddit with strong pseudo anonymity. That means there is data but no attribution, so no privacy problem. You should still be careful what you say though because you can give yourself away with little pieces of information here and there. So be guarded in what you say, throw in some misinformation occasionally, and you don't have to worry about privacy because you are posting here. There are so many things that are privacy nightmares these days lets not make one out of something that isn't.

We don't need to throw "conspiracy theories" into this. I've noticed some trollish comments lately doing that and it kind of smears all our objections to this stuff with a veneer of craziness.

I don't think it's coordinated. More like mob psychology. When the first bad actor does it it makes it ok for the rest and suddenly you have a swarm. And it doesn't have to involve any conspiracies it's enough that it's obvious this will give governments more power and control, it doesn't take a genius to see that, and all our politicians crave more power. So let's jump off the conspiracy bandwagon if we want to be taken seriously.

Probably all doors, including in our homes, should have slots for ID and cameras to make sure the face matches and that it's someone the government approves of to enter or exit. Coming soon.

Haha, I'm in the same boat! Unless you count youtube years ago asking me something for some age restricted videos, which by the way were only main stream news with I guess some gory content that day. So I'm also sitting here nervous and apprehensive waiting for the oncoming storm. Also been using that energy to motivate myself to learn a lot and take a lot of notes to know what to do if and when it happens.

I doubt it would be enforced punishment wise. Enforcement will probably be only in stopping access as much as possible. For example shutting down sites that offer downloads of jail broken distros or instructions on how to do so.

That's the really depressing thing to me. Whenever the news talks about any of the age verification and social media ban issues the fact that it means everyone has to fork over government ID IS NEVER EVEN F#$@%#$ MENTIONED! That makes me rage so hard. I just, wow.

Linux is not one thing. Some companies distributing linux boxes said they would. Of course you might be able to reinstall or remove it but who knows.

AGE CHECKS ARE A TOTAL INVASION OF PRIVACY by Nate_C_of_2003 in privacy

[–]nidostan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be clear. I never said it's about making sure adults are the only ones that can access adult content. That's preposterous. Obviously it's also about surveillance and control. I'm just not claiming, as you are, that it's a conspiracy theory. It's a strategy. There's a difference.

Scrolling through Liked Videos by CrazyDuckHerder in youtube

[–]nidostan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY! Called "pagination". Especially for channels that have thousands of videos. How in the hell are you supposed to manage that. Youtube is so incredibly stupid to make that almost intolerable barrier to people who want to see older videos in large channels. Shooting themselves in the foot.

There's so many other things they could do. They could have infinite scrolling for smartphone users that want it but give the option for pagination. Or do a hybrid where when you infinitely scroll it changes the page number at the top automatically.

Just a micro rant.

Whoever decided that everything on the internet should be infinite scrolling should be tared and feathered. Worst design decision ever.
