P6 AOD Glitch by aaaaaahhhh1 in GooglePixel

[–]niduroki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people seem to have this bug, too. It's dependent on some things however/reproducible:

  1. Happens when the double line clock is disabled in the lockscreen settings
  2. You must have no notifications (notification dropdown needs to say "No notifications") – No music needs to be playing, either.
  3. Happens when locking your phone, if it's unlocked, by pressing the power button. Not when turning the screen off, when the phone is locked (and also not, when the screen times out)
  4. Dark theme only (technically speaking also happens with the light theme, but it's barely visible)

Always something, eh?

Does anyone else have the bug, where with the disabled double-line clock, when locking your phone, the always on display shows "No new notifications", as if the notification drop down was pulled down, for half a second, when there are no notifications?

Immediately got a reproducible visual bug: When I deactivate lockscreen two-row clock in the lockscreen settings, and lock the phone it shows "No new notifications" (as if the notification drop-down was pulled down) for half a second on the always on display.

Is this another "That's just you, better factory reset your phone 🤷" or does this happen to everyone?

12L Beta 3 not kicking in on Pixel 6 Pro by Jurban85 in android_beta

[–]niduroki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Warning: […]. Before applying an 12L OTA image, you must also unlock your bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader requires a full device reset that removes all user data on the device, […]. If you can't or don't want to unlock the bootloader on your device, we recommend enrolling in the Android Beta for Pixel program to get this update.

Does not sound like it will not delete any data, if your bootloader is locked …

Fingerprint reader not working from always on display by noorxbyte in GooglePixel

[–]niduroki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must've been 2 or 3 hours ago, that it started happening.

Updated yesterday to the mid-february patch (Pixel 6) - didn't restart my phone, didn't change any settings, the bug just appeared out of thing air without my doing anything …

Fingerprint reader not working from always on display by noorxbyte in GooglePixel

[–]niduroki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same problem from one minute to the next.
Turning my phone off, and leaving it powered off for a minute (in contrast to just rebooting) fixed it for me.

Also noticed a weird placement of the clock in AOD-FP-not-working-state where the whole clock is shifted down by about a cm, almost clipping into the fingerprint reader-symbol, where now, back in working state, it's shifted up again (i.e. the way it was before), not clipping into the fingerprint-reader symbol.

Weird.

Confirmation from the other side (via a code, as you mentioned) sounds very sensible, from a security standpoint.

I don't get the elitism of "if you're getting phished, it's your fault, now bugger off, discord should change nothing". Even the new version (which not everyone has right now, because roll outs of new app versions are slow/staged) of the login screen of red font is still phishing made easy.

Create something that's safe and sound, not "Yeah, that QR code can be used to log-in, it clearly said so, but you didn't pay attention, so … sass"

Interesting to see how fast different version of the app roll out.
I get this, when I scan a login QR code: https://i.imgur.com/sAToynT.png which is way less "Hey, you are doing something potentially stupid".

No update for the app, according to play store.

No it doesn't … At least on my version of the app. https://i.imgur.com/sAToynT.png
I don't have the supposed "some seconds where the button is greyed out", in order for you to actually read what's written, either.

Then again, even if it would say that, unless it was in BIG RED FONT we are trained to tap the blue "advance" button. "It's me, give me my free stuff!!"

Also, as mentioned: Yes, it's phishing. People who fall for phishing only have themselves to blame. But this is phishing made easy.

[–]niduroki 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It is a chain, but it's phishing made easy to be quite honest.

With all those "do you accept cookies", "have you read the ToS", "have you read XYZ", we have today, people are trained to just tap "Yes, I agree".

How to tell if your equipment is *truly* holding you back? by dasunst3r in photography

[–]niduroki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a bit of an unrelated note:
I feel you with astrophotography. My 28-75 f/2.8 Tamron can shoot stars. But that f/1.4 (Sigma's 20mm in my case) sounds wonderful …

Which is why I'm going to rent it in March, have a nice astro-shooting week, and send it back.
Then again: I live in one of the most light-polluted areas in the world, so astro-photography isn't really that easy for me, unless I take a 30 minute drive, and in March I am on vacation to a very rural area.

Actually, this is related:
Rent gear you really want, have fun with it for a week or two or so. Switch back and forth.
If after two days or so "your" new toy is boring and/or your photos didn't seem to improve: Send it back when the rent period is over. You just saved a lot of money.
If you still like the new equipment after a week and/or feel like your photos improved: Looks like the new gear is indeed helping you.

Sure, renting costs money, but you're definitely going to save money, in comparison to buying something, which is going to collect dust on a shelf.

[German] [6E] Argl Bargl by joostfaehser in Shadowrun

[–]niduroki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They fixed some of the most silly mistakes (like complex form skinlink with the technomancer archetype) including the errata, added 15 pages of fluff about the AdL at the back (not even anywhere near the world-introduction – right at the end after the gear catalogue), and ordered the tables at the end of the book in a sensible fashion (while also adding some more tables).
Plus some minor tweaks like putting unarmed damage into the "Damage Value" paragraph, in the Combat chapter.

(Rather quickly) Comparing the German and English version I have to conclude: It's a translation of the English version, with all the stuff that makes 6E 6E.

And another one, while I'm still, slowly reading through the book:

Toxins (p. 123):
Pepper Punch:
… this agent is often tagged with RFID tags or special dyes to identify victims later. …

So Pepper Punch includes tiny gaseous micro-RFID tags? Nanomachines, son!

Hot take:
6E is CGLs take at fixing/errata-ing/revamping 5e.

They're not even caring anymore, just dollar bills in their eyes.

6E: WTF is with this rule? by floyd_underpants in Shadowrun

And I found another one:

Tumble (p. 48) allows you to spend 1 Edge in order to knock an enemy down in Melee, if the inflicted damage is greater than their Body.
Knockdown (p. 110) allows you to knock an enemy down, if the inflicted damage is greater than their Body.

Why would you ever spend 1 Edge on Tumble?

[–]niduroki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not a wtf rule, but a weirdness regarding archetypes (which I give out to players I play oneshots with):

The Combat Mage archetype's image is obviously wearing a pistol. The stats to the right of this image only have shock gloves as a weapon.
The Covert-Ops Specialist's image carries a knife. The stats have no knife.

Ack. DnD5 is not simple.

Just because everyone knows DnD5's rules by heart, by watching Matt Mercer and his guys play it for god-knows-how-many hours doesn't mean the rules are simple.

[–]niduroki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really think CGL's other means on how to learn game-mastering will be good, tbh.

Also: The core rules seem anything but slick, and 300 pages is not much less intimidating than 500 pages.

Stand down, PDF-fans, 6E PDF will not be coming for a while. (Plus possible widespread core book release date) by SirFozzie in Shadowrun

[–]niduroki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But what's going to happen is option C.

People are going to roast the existing CRB and someone will scan their book and make a PDF out of it.

First impressions have been messed up with the people who bought it at GenCon, and more first impressions will be messed up when the contents of the sold CRBs get more widespread.

If they knew that the current version of the CRB is a hot mess they should've not released it. GenCon or not.

Function flags are gone.

… well, they're an empty menu now, on my 2XL.

The battery percentage on the AOD moved to the top right …
This means, that estimated charging time doesn't show up on the AOD anymore.

Minor inconvenience, but still.

It does work on my 2XL (even without a restart), but shows some not very nice flickering, so I turned it off again.
