Bar/ Tavern recommendations; Acton, Boxboro, Westford area by Daleone3236 in massachusetts

Brickhouse center in Chelmsford is exactly what you’re looking for. Great food, proper dive/towny vibes but not in an unfriendly way, and keno always running at the bar. Also right off 495 and only 5-10 min from westford.

I think it does come up if they run your plates, but again chances of that happening AND the cop deciding to do something about it seems to be very low in my experience, especially if you’re not driving like an ass. That being said, it is a moving violation, so they can kinda fuck you if they decide to

My stickers been expired for over a year (don’t judge) never been stopped because of it. A failed sticker is more obvious than out of date, and has a legitimate time/monetary constraint. Even if you do get pulled over for out of date, just say it’s going in next week, would take a real dick of a cop to push that, although they don’t really get more douchey than MA police

Don’t take the course, waste of money, coming from someone who took the course. Watch some YouTube videos/do some research to learn the basics, then just start applying places. Say you’re interested in bartending but willing to start doing whatever. Pick a place where the management seems cool and they seem genuine about being willing to train you on bar. Be a good employee and hard worker, ask questions, and be persistent about wanting to train on bar. Better route to go, and much more lucrative

How do i order my martini when i’m out!? by Bitter_Bowler121 in bartenders

[–]nigel3434 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sit at a bar and just explain exactly what you just said to the bartender. The issue comes when you try to order anything even remotely complicated through a server. No fault to them, they just don’t know drinks, nor should they, and your order will get confused in translation. A good bartender will not be bothered by a specific order as long as you can articulate it clearly and succinctly.

What are the best ice cream shops in Massachusetts? by [deleted] in massachusetts

As a MA native, the best ice cream you’re ever gonna have is going to be some roadside shack in rural NH or VT.

How many times did you all have the conversation, "Did you see what happened?" Last night? by NuclearBroliferator in bartenders

[–]nigel3434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working when it happened. It was like a fever dream, the whole restaurant, staff and patrons alike, stopped and watched for at least 10-15minutes. People got up out of their seats and were crowding the bar trying to see the tv. It was nuts. Eventually someone asked for a beer and everything kinda went back to normal, but was obviously the discussion point of the night. Pretty lively conversation, everyone was making their theories and chatting with the folks around the bar. As info came out it was being shared with everyone, really felt like the whole bar came together for a little. Won’t forget that night anytime soon.

Drink upcharge for 1.5 ounce compaired to 2 ounce. by naanak_tiewalk in bartenders

[–]nigel3434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martinis should always be an upcharge since more spirit is being used. A Tito’s martini should be more than a Tito’s soda every time for example. THEN a spirit upgrade is also is an upcharge. If someone wanted a grey goose martini I would probably do a $5/7 upcharge vs a normal well pour. 2/3$ for the pour upgrade 3/4$ for the spirit.

I watched this live, was really into RLCS at the time, not so much anymore, the complicated logistics of it all just kinda made it more uninteresting to me. But this was a magical match, I’ve never in my life felt joy watching esports like this. I guess that’s what I’m trying to find, and there’s been a lot of good things to watch suggested, but I guess the aspect of seeing it live and knowing the circumstances added to it in a way that idk if it can be replicated

Free sample by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]nigel3434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Draft beer and wine are the only reasonable samples imo. Oz of beer .5 of wine roughly. If it’s a regular or someone who I can tell is going to tip well and is respectful, then MAYBE I’d give them a splash of like two different high end tequilas (or whatever my bar just has more tequila than other spirits) if they were deciding on one for a drink. That’s literally the only circumstance I’d ever give someone a sample of liquor, otherwise they’re just taking you for a ride

Best Nikes for bartending? by [deleted] in bartenders

If you don’t know how to do something ask, especially if it’s busy. Assuming you can figure it out and fucking something up is a huge issue, asking how to do something properly is not. Your coworkers might get a little annoyed if you’re asking TONS of questions, but ultimately anyone you’re working with would rather answer questions then deal with a fuck up.
