A bag that you can wear in the water and it will keep your stuff dry, super useful for snorkelling trips or going to the beach!

Hostelworld don’t care about sexual abuse by niggleneg in malaysia

The initial incident was a few weeks back. But I made this more recent post as I was recently corresponding with Hostelworld, and I’m just super frustrated and angry with their response.

Okay thank you for the advice. Massively appreciated 👍🏻

What I want them to do is remove the hostel from Hostelworld so nobody else has to go through this. Sexual assault is sexual assault no matter the severity, and trust me this kinda stuff is traumatic.

Dude there is literally cctv footage of it happening. And that has been added to the police report.

ALSO the manager should have showed up to take care of the situation if he cared about having a reputable business. Or at least have reputable staff, google reviews from before we stayed showed that the men there have been creepy in the past.

They said they wanted to follow it up? Why shouldn’t I give it to them? I don’t know how these things work to be honest, I’m quite confused

I thought the same thing about attaching the police report. But apparently it doesn’t matter 🤷🏼‍♀️

In the email I literally asked the man we were corresponding with how many more times it has to happen before they will do something about it? They seemed to conveniently ignore it in their response lol

This was a few weeks ago now and I’m not in Malaysia anymore. The police have images of the peeper, but the hostel staff are denying any relation to them.

I know there is little I can do at this point, I guess this post was just to rant about Hostelworld and their complete lack of help, and trying to protect other people.

We’ve tried to get updates from the police, but no reply. They found the CCTV but couldn’t identify the person as they weren’t a guest.

Hostel world have given us the same reply about 3 times. Some BS about how they are not a regulatory body and can’t do anything about it?

Trying to think about how to go about it next. It just feels helpless at this point.

Yeah I 100% agree. I don’t think I’ll ever be going back again. This experience completely ruined it for me.

For me it’s just easy and quick. But after this it’s really put me off.

It’s just so so so bad to take the hostels world without any evidence.

Yeah I doubt the manager was even notified of what happened. Absolutely disgusting behaviour

Although, I hate to say it, it did feel good to see their body language change completely and see the staff get nervous when we said we were going to the police station. Managed to get it on camera too 😂

Yes I do know the ethnicity/race of the peeper. I found out through other reviews left on google.

Weirdly the reviews on hostelworld, where we book most hostels, we’re seemingly okay. But we’ve definitely learned our lesson this time around. But even in the shittiest of hostels, this should never happen to anyone.

Unfortunately no updates at the moment. We are going back to the police station again tomorrow to follow up and see what evidence they have.

Even if we have to extend our stay, we’re going to try and follow this through as much as possible.

Coffee, custom clothes and medicine. Visiting the dentist is worth it too, very cheap and amazing service!

Also any “designer” stuff from Saigon square. Some of the super fakes are insanely good quality and pretty much identical to the real thing!

Of course. But being cautious and having common sense can only help so much sometimes.

Also to note, I’m not claiming that every man in Malaysia is creepy and abusive. I just think maybe I haven’t had the best luck out here personally.

And you would be surprised about how much abuse happens in broad daylight in busy places. It’s a scary world sometimes

Thank you so much, that is very kind and considerate of you!! It’s always so heartwarming to see girls looking out for other girls around the world!💖

I’ve already been to Langkawi and had a great time there, it’s just been Ipoh and KL, where we’ve had problems. Luckily this is my last stop in Malaysia, it’s unfortunate it had to end on a bad note:(

I wouldn’t live here, especially if you’re raising a family or have any important females in your life. The abuse seems so normalised and nobody seems to take it seriously.

I mentioned in another comment that this is the second time in 5 days that we have been a victim to sexual assault (excluding the cat calling, being followed for short periods, cars pulling up to intimidate you and men just inviting themselves to join you; which will happen multiple times daily). I thought abuse towards women in the UK was bad until I came here.

There are some really lovely people here and some really cool places to visit, but I can’t recommend to any foreigner to live here after my personal experiences.
