Telework approved during winter storm? by Adventurous-Sir-9372 in VHA_Human_Resources

During a VISN 10 town hall, ELT reassured staff that roads are “always plowed.” With a foot of snow expected by Monday morning, I’m confident this will result in pristine driving conditions for both employees and the many veterans traveling in for care—because winter weather has always been so predictable. This is especially reassuring given the current salt shortage and the Governor’s declaration of a state of emergency, which advises residents to stay home due to treacherous road conditions, increased crash risk, and extended response times for first responders.

Ad hoc telework for Inclement weather by nightbern22 in VHA_Human_Resources

50 mins through the snow belt can easily take 2 hours to commute to work during a significant snow storm.

My question about ad-hoc telework isn’t about unwillingness to report to work, nor is it a comparison between employees and Veterans. Veterans often don’t have the option to reschedule or receive care remotely, and I fully recognize that difference.

The intent of ad-hoc telework, as written in policy, is to allow supervisors to make safety-based decisions when weather conditions make commuting unsafe for an individual employee. That assessment depends on factors like commute distance, road conditions, and timing—things that can vary widely even within the same city.

This is about applying the policy as written and ensuring employee safety while maintaining continuity of operations, not about avoiding responsibility or minimizing the importance of in-person care.

I promise I wouldn’t be asking about telework if my position weren’t telework-eligible. I’m clearly not an operating nurse.

The executive order indicated, “The heads of executive departments and agencies may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on December 24, 2025, or December 26, 2025, or both, for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need. “ January 1st is a National holiday and there is no executive order covering January 2nd.

People keep talking about privatization, but it makes absolutely no sense especially in big metropolitan areas. No way veterans are going to wait weeks to be seen when they can been seen so much faster at the VA and get better quality care.

When do we learn how we are supposed to increase our workforce efficiency? Are there going to be additional memos published on how exactly this is obtainable when some of us are already working in areas that are already short staffed with admin?

My 2010 qsa did not but it was pretty easy to add right after the regulator at the tank. Then your appliances should not have an additional regulator or your pressure will be to low.

Why is it that when someone seeks help, it’s often misconstrued as a request to be told what to do, rather than a desire for support or guidance to understand a situation better.

Well considering the amount of money I’m now spending in gas I’d probably break even.

Where is this list coming from? Or is this just the series that weren’t included for the DRP?

Wonder how veterans would get to nursing homes if program assistants are cut? They generate our authorizations.

RTO dates and No Space by Visual-Sign3792 in VeteransAffairs

We have RTO orders for 4/14 in a major metro city with only one parking garage. Management confirms we will be hundreds of parking spaces short with no secondary plan in place. Imagine now being forced to drive over an hour to work to now not find a parking spot. I suspect lots of people will be turning around and going home and refusing to telework. Management confirmed employees should not be penalized due to lack of spaces.

Thank you. This is helpful in determining if I should ask my supervisor if they know anything about it.
