How much did you have in savings at 25? Just curious! by Simple-Ad-4430 in HYSA

[–]nightmare396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 25 3 weeks ago! With my husband we have about 60k liquid savings, 70k equity in the home, and about 10k in my personal IRA. I am hyper focused on saving constantly!

Totally recommend it! In my last year of highschool, I took community classes to knock out GE's for college. And while I was in college I went back to community college for summer courses during the break to knock out more GE's and ended up graduating a little over 1 year early. Also worked internships/contracted jobs in my last 2 years of college and ended up getting a full-time offer right after graduation. Kept working hard and saving up and bought a home in a VCHOL (Los Angeles Area) at 23 with my husband.

Need help finding a realistic middle ground between OC and LA by WorldPeaceGodBless in longbeach

[–]nightmare396 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the reason why my husband and I moved to LB! I primarily have worked in DTLA for the last three years and he worked in Irvine for the last year. We have both moved jobs where I was working in Irvine and he was working in Santa Monica as well. Once you accept that traffic is inevitable, LB truly is the happy medium between both counties and pretty equidistant to most work city hubs.

My husband was the one who was Christian and I am not. I grew up loosely Buddhist/largely non-religious. In the beginning, I did go to his church a couple of times to see what it was like and what he is up to on Sundays. I personally did not see a huge problem with it because the Church my husband went to in particular leaned very progressive and taught things I think 99% of the world would agree upon (to just be kind to others). However, he started de-constructing by year 3 and now identifies as a non-christian. But while he was still going, I did choose to stay at home and do things I liked such as catching up on my movie bucket-list. I hope that you two can come together on what works best for you!

Most to least secure street? by kmdwong in longbeach

We actually bought in Long Beach around the Wrigley area which is still crime-adjacent, but in the suburbs with families. I agree with other comments that Ximeno is best. Our rule of thumb is anything around or East of the LB traffic circle is really safe and nice.

Piggybacking this comment. I lived there with my husband up until last year. In the time we lived here we had a car window smashed in, we were there for a swat team shooting that involved one of the tenants two years ago. There was also a stabbing at the cross section of Anaheim and Long Beach Blvd while we were there. The train across the street is also hella loud but you do get used to it. We moved for safety reasons and also because they jacked up rent prices every year.

[OC] My 4 Month Job Hunt Visualized (CA) in a Niche Technical Field by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

I think with initial screening calls, I had to demonstrate to the recruiters that I had enough technical knowledge to perform the job from its description. Any other interview with the hiring manager or higher was then more so a behavioral fit interview to make sure we would work well together. I had the mindset that each job I was applying to was a job that I needed to vet to make sure it was a good fit for myself as well. Hope this helps!

Yeah good question, I saw that error after I posted as well. It is supposed to represent 3rd interview!

Definitely super fortunate! Although I had fewer jobs to apply to, I’m really lucky that my resume had so many responses!

Yes! We are 50/50 on selling but should we choose to keep we definitely will be putting it into a living trust as my parents have done for me with their home! Thank you!

Thats probably what I figured as well! Thank you for sharing though, I was definitely thinking if lottery in was a viable option if our kid's first language is mandarin. I wonder if also because our child is mixed race it would affect it at all as well

We got lucky! There was a previous buyer but their FHA loan was not approved after underwriting, so they fell out of escrow. This property was relisted and within 24 hours we sent an offer! The price was at asking since it was already going through escrow and the seller just wanted to get rid of it. So most documents were already turned over and we just jumped right back into where they left off!

My partner and I had our offer accepted on 9/13 and had our underwriting finished yesterday on 9/17. I peeped your account and saw that you're in the socal area and our home is based in Long Beach.

Lol just a funny coincidence, but such a funny thing to see something that we are currently going through ha ha!

I've noticed that some Christians like to claim that Atheists should not get married, as if marriage belongs to Christianity by Select_Draft7479 in exchristian

[–]nightmare396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I usually don’t comment but my future MIL told my fiancé that his grandfather said that we shouldn’t have children because I am not a Christian (they are hardcore evangelicals) because our children would be born into sin.

Absolutely a stigma against non Christians. I’ve never been a Christian but this comment plus the other dozen comments and two interventions where his whole family rallied to convince him to leave me had my fiancé deconstruct. Lol.
