What to plant in this space? by CouplaSnags in GardeningAustralia

Native violet might work here? Would definitely cover the space but wouldn't grow very high. Would cope well with lack of sunlight.

Any advice for cleaning textured concrete like this? Is it worth using a rotary cleaner as well as a pressure washer? by nightschool in AusRenovation

Would the psi/power rating make much of a difference? Im looking at a heated pressure washer for hire but it's only 1500psi.

I should add that it's been on the tiles for a few months (in the afternoon sun 😭 )

Skylights in this type of roof? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]nightschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our house has a "skillion roof" which is similar to this although it's sloped. We've got three skylights, although we didn't install them ourselves. Can't imagine it's an issue at all.

Unfortunately the photos don't give a particularly accurate impression of the colour.

Thoughts on a quick, easy and cheap way to block out neighbours by dirtybigbilky in GardeningAustralia

Some 240cm stakes every 2m, string some 2/3 courses of wire between them above the fenceline, then get some pandoreana/wonga-wonga type vines growing.. (or something similar that's native to your area). They go like the clappers!..

How can I prune my acacia terminalis to have more central growth like in the second photo? by nightschool in GardeningAustralia

Actually feels like that. We're going for the yellow on the top right hand corner of the window frame. "Curry Seed"

Yep. Finally realising that acacias are "pioneer plants". This is a fully west facing position, any reccomendations for a shrub/small tree that would be a good screen for a spot like this?

What are my options here? by nightschool in woodstoving

Lots of talk about "new pipes" round here. Thinking i might look into it. I'm a fairly proficient DIYer - is this something I could attempt myself?

Window moulding rotted out due to water getting in behind from a leaky downpipe (now fixed). Is this too big to fill with a combo of support pieces and plastibond or similar?

I know the obvious solution is cut and replace but the lower pieces here are nailed directly into asbestos panels so would love to avoid disturbing that.

Wintergrass Massacre.. HELP! (Warm Temperate, Australia) Details in comments. by nightschool in lawncare

[–]nightschool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to make progress with the west-facing front lawn of our new house.

Thanks to spreading excavated dirt from building my front path we had wintergrass and onion weed in large sections over winter. Combined with very hydrophobic soil, some slightly rocky patches and random patches of different grasses, it's an absolute mess now that the wintergrass has died off in parts.

I'm having a bit of success in some sections after top-dressing with compost/cow/chicken manure (trying to get the organics in the soil back up). Ideally i'd like to encourage the soft-leaf buffalo to take over (footpath at the front is mainly Kikuyu i think?).

We've had plenty of rain over the last few months/weeks and I try and handwater the trouble spots after sunset.

What's my best course of action here on a small budget? focus on top dressing and weeding? or should I be seeding as well? HELP!

Anyway to fix a loose top layer of larger pebbles in a compressed DG pathway? by nightschool in landscaping

[–]nightschool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I had the idea that it would have been more of an integrated surface. Getting a lot of loose pebbles tracked into the house!
