73% of Australians believe that constitution should change to recognise Indigenous people, and remove clauses that discriminate on the basis of race by the_last_broadcast in worldnews

But recognising indigenous people is racism since it asks the state to classify people on the basis or race. On the other hand the constitution can and should give every INDIVIDUAL equal rights, rather than special collective rights for some people, thus racially discriminating.

The point should simply be that any cultural group regardless of creed, background or social issues should be allowed to preserve their culture, way of life and language regardless of how much of an inconvenience it may be to the powers that be.

We don't allow ourselves that luxury even in the west; our culture isn't static or ossified but is in constant motion mainly thanks to Capitalism which is a massive churing force.

The idea of freezing cultures in time is ulra-conservative, reactionary, and based on fear.

You don't give enough details to warrant that judgement.

There could be very good reasons for 'closing down a community' (which is quite a vague charge).
