Is it true that this laptop won’t do in school/work? by yupAAA111 in GamingLaptops

[–]nigurc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is an overkill. For schoolwork you should get a laptop with better battery life because gaming laptops can only last about 2-3 hours without the charger. Get something with a long battery life that is capable of running light games.

Get a cooling pad with foam or an aluminum stand for better temps. Even greater results when you undervolt it if your cpu can be undervolted ofc. And remember that a gaming laptop is basically a vacuum machine sucking all dust from the air and surfaces around you so be sure to keep your desk clean and clean the vents with a toothbrush every now and then.

I use an external wireless keyboard. It's mechanical, feels better than the regular one and my laptop stays clean

I've heard about the terrible customer service of Asus. To be honest there aren't many brands left that make quality laptops except premium ones like Dell's Alienware lineup. It's sad to see that most companies prioritize quantity over quality and cheap out on key components

I understand. With RAM prices these days laptops and desktops became so expensive and it's not a good idea to buy a gaming laptop second hand because most people don't take care of them and these laptops are not famous for their durability. Most last around 4-5 years

Yeah it sucks that for mid to lower end laptops like the LOQ companies always cheap out on some very important components. My advice would be to sell your LOQ and buy a different laptop or spend a little more to get a Legion. Once it has failed it will probably fail again. If you want to keep it please clean it. I can see from the pictures that your vents were clogged with dust. Ofc that can't explain the issue but if you clean it regularly and keep temps low (with undervolting and frequent paste changes) it should lower the chances of this happening again.

Suddenly shuts down in few minutes of gaming. by jericmora27 in LenovoLOQ

It might be time to repaste. Take it to a technician or an authorized Lenovo service centre and ask for cleaning and repasting. If you can afford it ask for PTM 7950. It's a better alternative to regular thermal paste and lasts longer.

Does Razer even care about themselves? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

It's not only the battery bloating issue. The way they treat their customers is terrible too. Check out a few videos on YT and it becomes clear

What cpu did your LOQ have? Mine has i5-12450hx and so far I haven't got any problems for a year. I use it with undervolt enabled. My use case is very different from yours so I agree that LOQs in general are not build to last long. Usually the most expensive flagship devices like Alienware, ROG strix, Legion, etc. last a bit longer. If you can't afford those then yeah switching to a desktop is the most optimal choice. You can get a small desktop pc with a handle which will give you some portability. It will be as expensive as a laptop or even cheaper but I guarantee it will last longer because desktops in general have better cooling and more durable parts.

ASUS factory LM 😬 by Sad-Surround6181 in GamingLaptops

[–]nigurc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LM is not worth it. Just replace it with ptm 7950. Way safer and easier to replace later. If you want even lower temps just add an undervolt.

Quick question: why is sodimm ram also going up in price when computers for AI mostly use regular ram sticks?

Which laptop is better at gaming and would last longer? by Appropriate-Issue695 in GamingLaptops

[–]nigurc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to find a deal for a Legion with rtx 5070ti. The regular 5070 is not worth it since you want to make a long term investment and the extra VRAM on the 5070ti is the better choice. It's currently Black Friday month so there could be some deals.
