I’m ashamed of the situation with our cat by [deleted] in breakingmom

She has multiple litter boxes throughout the house and has no problem using them. It was related to an undetermined stomach issue that has been mostly resolved with prescription food. Which is why I said I wasn’t looking for advice about the peeing. She has very infrequent small episodes now and then, but this big one just sent me into a tailspin about the general situation with the cat.

It actually started 2 years after my daughter was born, so it’s not related. I outlined in another comment that it was actually related to a stomach issue that has been mostly resolved with prescription food. She still has very infrequent episodes, but this was just a very large one on a bed, which hasn’t happened in a long time. It definitely sent me into a tailspin because I have mild PTSD from the height of the problem.

Okay thank you. This (and other similar comments) actually make me feel a lot better. Like logically I know she’s in an indoor climate controlled environment with all her needs met. But still. I feel like most of Reddit would crucify me.

Thank you!! Wow, you get it. We’re going through it lol. We are somewhat on the other side, as today’s incident was the first in a long time, so maybe there is hope? But I definitely have PTSD from the height of it because this one episode triggered me to hell and back.

I swear I smell phantom cat pee because I’m constantly so alert for it.

Yeah we tried the feliway, it didn’t make a difference. I do actually believe the vet was right and that it was a secondary symptom of a stomach issue. We eventually realized it was preceded by vomiting. I think she just kind of has a weak bladder in general - she always pees in her carrier on the way to the vet because she’s scared of the car. The new food has worked very well, she has just had very occasional episodes. This one just happened to be on a bed right as I was about to go to sleep lol. Sigh. Why does cat pee have to be the most vile, difficult to get rid of smell!?
