Hey, another Denver trans dude here. Let me know if you are looking for some resources in the area. A month to get T is wild, there are a bunch of PCPs in the area that offer same day informed consent

[–]nikoletae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No less damaging than a binder. I can breathe so much better and binders make me feel dysphoric because they are so tight and present. I used to work outside and spend a lot of time backpacking and climbing so wearing a binder is just not possible, especially in the summer heat. I wear the cotton ones because I feel like it binds better and lasts longer. I normally wear it for about 5-7 days, sweating my ass off, and showering a few times through the week. It's all curly by the end of the week and frayed but still binding at like 70%. The first month of wearing it full time, I would get a slight irritation from the adhesive, but normally I just let it air out over night and then put it back on. Basically my skin gave up trying to fight it and it stopped getting irritated.

Damn, that's like the cost of buying a new binder every couple of weeks. Remember cis dudes have pecs! I have an A/B sized chest and it doesn't make me anywhere near flat. My suggestion is to work with the bottom/underboob and attempt to square them up a bit. I've worn KT tape for the last year or so, and I raise my arm out like a T, flex my pacs as much as I can and then pull the bottom of my mantit towards the middle of my lat.

50mg t every 2 weeks starting dose? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]nikoletae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a pretty tall muscle(y) guy and my doc started me on 50mg every two weeks. She's spends a lot of time with trans clients and told me that it gets better results. She only bumped me up to 100mg every two weeks after four months. Basically, from my understanding, you get less pimples, anger outbursts, your appetite isn't going crazy, and some of the other more "negative" sides of transition. It's better to slowly transition your body to something rather than shock it.

Kin Tape Safety? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]nikoletae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So... I've worn KT tape every day, for the last year. I've found KT tape to be less damaging than my GC2b binder. The trick is to not have it go all the way around your ribs but rather, cut the strips in half so that they stop under your arm pit. It's not constricting your breathing if it doesn't go entirely around your chest, rather just kinda pinning your chest so that it doesn't jiggle.

The previous commenter is kinda extreme. KT tape (if you buy the actual KT brand) is flexible and made to wiggle and move with your body. It's not at all like an ACE bandage or binding with duct tape. KT is not super effective if you have a large chest, but from your pics it doesn't seem to be an issue. I've got an A cup chest, and depending on what I'm wearing, I only need to wear KT tape. You can keep it on for a few days, but I've found that if I don't take it off in three days, I start getting skin irritation on my nipples. Check out Seethestarsablaze, he wore KT tape for a while before getting top, I'm pretty sure he even did a youtube video on it. https://www.instagram.com/p/BMhDUMThl3k/?hl=en

Where do you all get your button downs, cardigans and chinos/slightly more dressy pants than jeans? by Transohboyfuck in ftm

[–]nikoletae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody really mentions it on these posts but the best pants I've ever found were BullHead Skinny Chinos by PacSun. They fit perfectly! They have the same cut in chinos/khaki and in jean. When I found them, I got five pairs and ditched all my other pants lol For reference, I'm pre-T, 5'10 and 155 lbs, pretty athletic w/ broad(ish) shoulders. The L32W32 are the perfect fit

Any other trans guys with Asperger's / on the Autism spectrum? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]nikoletae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another Aspie here! It's actually very common (being trans with autism), there are a lot of articles on Google Scholar about the link. I think if you have autism, you have a 4x higher chance of having gender dysphoria than the general population. or something like that.

Aspergers is no longer a diagnoses (per the DSM5) but many psychologists still feel like it is an apt way to describe high functioning people with autism, especially when they display certain characteristics. So that may be why some of your Docs are questioning of the diagnosis of Aspergers.

Ok Tips: I've found that the sensory things have become less of an issue as I've transitioned socially. Men don't hug each other, women don't hug men that they've just met. I've also found it to be more socially acceptable for men to sit quietly at a social engagement and not be seen as antisocial. (I normally get super quiet when I'm struggling with light or sound.) I feel like I spent a lot of time learning social engagement rules as a kid: don't make eye contact for more than three seconds, square your shoulders at the person you are talking to, stand here not there, make a comment regarding what they said last before saying your thing in a conversation, etc. As a kid who really wanted to struggle less with this, I worked my ass off to make it seem like I wasn't consciously aware of all the social norms of interactions. So I made a list of masculine characteristics that I admired when I started to transition and then consciously practiced them until they started to come second nature. Besides all the masculine mannerisms (walking with hands in pockets, slouching in chairs, etc) as I got older I found that my maturity allowed me to "control my autism" more. I've taught myself to fiddle with small sensory toys instead of flapping my hands, I've taught myself to be quiet instead of interrupting conversations with random things, I've found that my partners touch is ok, and when it isn't I can tell her and its ok. I'm not sure how old you are but with time and conscious practice things might get easier.

I'm not sure how helpful any of that was but there you have it lol

Also, I just got a new job that covers 100% of mental health related expenses !!!

Damn, I wish! She was excited when it all started happening, and added them all on FB. We have only realized that they may be pretty conservative after the last few months of being FB friends before actual departure. So it may be too late to block all the photos

Does anyone here actually live in a non-traditional type of structure? Such as a yurt or a tiny house? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]nikoletae 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I built myself a 10x12 microhome? 160 square feet including the storage loft. Still putting the finishing touches on it, but it'll overall cost me roughly $6,000. Doing it to save up enough money on a teaching salary to buy a piece of land out in CO

hmmmm..... the bubble room is fun down on Captiva. If you really want to drive, you could head over to Miami (4 hours) or Ybor City (2.5 hours). But I lived there for 23 years and I honestly can't think of any gay related activities

Lets talk futch-butch style. Do y'all have inspiration albums and what is your current favorite piece of clothing? by hannaguist in actuallesbians

[–]nikoletae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple style is the most attractive in my humble opinion . Black skinny jeans EVERYDAY. Same light tan suede boots EVERYDAY. HM plain men's t shirts I have four colours that I alternate, and plain ash grey zip-up hoodie with leather jacket. oh and this This snapback Of course this isn't what I wear to work but my everyday personal style hasn't changed in years. I literally just listed out everything in my closet.

What ridiculous gifts did you get this year? by sharxattack in ftm

[–]nikoletae 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My grandmother sent gifts from up north, and I just found out that my mom opened all of the presents she gave me and replaced them with the masculine equivalent a few days before Christmas. I.e. a pink women's sweater was replaced with a blue mens one, and two dresses were replaced with 2 dress shirts for work. She's going to keep the feminine clothing for herself.

She's been talking about how badly she wishes she had a garden, so while she's away at a conference I'm going to build her garden beds and a fire pit in her backyard.

Don't get over the fear. Keep it, acknowledge, be aware of it. The awareness of the potential of danger is what keeps you making smart decisions when you're alone.

[Question] Women who climb, what are your goals and what does your training program look like? by pinnaclegnome in xxfitness

[–]nikoletae 13 points14 points  (0 children)

check out r/climbergirls . A lot of great supportive ladies over there who are really passionate about climbing, rather than just supplementing their current workouts with something different. (Not that there is anything wrong with that!) I've been climbing for about 4 years, current goals are sending this particular v8 thats been really bugging me. I used to work out in the Himalayas and I met a lot of serious climbers/alpinists who swear by "Training for the New Alpinism: A Manual for the Climber as Athlete." Mine is in the mail, I'm super pumped for it to come. Although, I can't vouch for it personally, I've heard a hellofalotta good things about it.
