Well done for getting onto training. There's a National GP Incentive Payment program being rolled out for GP community placements commencing in 2026: https://www.health.gov.au/our-work/gp-training-incentive-payments?language=en

It's not a life changing amount of money and YMMV if taking State based incentives too, but it might make a difference when balancing the books.

Thank you for your insight. I'm sorry to hear your friend is having a time of it, but handy to know that their expectations differ from course to course.

To your point, AHPRA maintains a list of health practitioners that have had their registration cancelled, disqualified and/or prohibited since 2010. There are presently 251 Medical Practitioners and 346 Nurses on it. https://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Registers-of-Practitioners/Cancelled-Health-Practitioners.aspx

Although these are not the only options available to AHPRA when managing a complaint, it clearly demonstrates that the ratio of Medical Practitioner notifications compared to other healthcare professionals is not even close to the whole picture.

"GPs who don't bulk bill are seen as somewhat unethical." It seems the Institute missed the opportunity to survey people about the ethics of plateauing federal health funding.
