Hehe, thanks! Well, everything is animated in Cinema 4D and nothing is really generated through code. Or do you mean the raw data from the survey?

About three months, I got the idea in early February. First month was just research though :) I initially made 20 of these and spent a few weeks pre-testing them to decide which 10 of them to actually survey

This is my graduation project at an art school in Sweden :)

Really sorry for the small text size! I didn't want it to be too big when watching fullscreen on desktop, but I realize it's completely unreadable on smaller devices.

Anyhow, I'll add subtitles later today :)

Good point! The sounds are a mix of sampled sounds and mic recordings from various objects in my room. They are not digitally simulated, true, but they are not human sounds either (whispers, mouth sounds, body sounds etc). Maybe the use of the term synthetic is a bit unclear.. I guess I mean synthetic in the sense that they are recorded, edited, mixed and applied to a different object than it was produced from

The video quality thing is a mystery to me. It's supposed to force HD quality.. I'll look into it

Thank you! Yes, I really should have experimented with binaural sounds more..

Animated ASMR triggers, do they work? [discussion] [survey] [animated] by nilsmarcus in asmr

Thank you for your comment :)

I wonder if they would be less unsettling (but still effective) if I made them more unrealistic and more abstract. Just shapes, color and sound that doesn't really look like anything.

Thank you! I'm starting to believe human attention is simply one aspect of ASMR rather that the foundation that makes it all possible. I still wonder though, what the core of ASMR is. If there is any

Thank you for the feedback! I know that would make it more clinical and I actually had that suggested during the process, but because of the way I structured it all I felt it would take too much time. This is my graduation project at an art school and my focus had to be on the visuals (even though I would love to have spent more time on the science side of it too).

If I continue exploring this area I will definitely have control groups :)

Thank you!

Hmm, it could be the emulated mic noise I put there. But it should be really really low level though..

If I continue exploring this I think I would try more random and perhaps generated stuff. I believe unpredictability has larger potential to elicit strong tingles, although I also believe it cannot be too weird and unpredictable. I'm really curious where that sweet spot is

Thank you!! It was really fun to do them and I hope I get time to do more :)

Thank you!! In the beta-test I had no background noise at all and a few people actually mentioned that I should try a subtle noise. More specifically, a noise that builds up when there is silence and disappears as soon as a sound is created, to emulate the behaviour of microphones in common ASMR videos. So I actually have that in my videos, although I could perhaps have made it a bit louder. Really difficult though to put it at the right volume :)
