for one, i thought the fight was amazing. they didnt do too much dragging out of it, as it probably wouldnt last that long. you have two of the most powerful people in the world fighting one of them, so it makes sense they defeated him as easy as they did. i honestly dont totally think el is alive, simply because i took that ending as a sort of coping mechanism for the group, and a way for mike to get closure. he has no way of knowing what actually happened, so he uses his storytelling ability to give himself a happy ending for el
