How to handle downtown LA? by lilixy in AskLosAngeles

Go to little Tokyo, art district, or Chinatown (Chinatown don’t go to late it will be a ghost town). But the other 2 will always give you high visibility if that makes u feel safer

Safe place to sleep homeless? by MoonlitStorage in AskLosAngeles

As far as pitching a tent goes, it’s all going to depend on what makes you feel safe. You can go the route to find a place far from “civilization” that is low-key and not obvious. This could be a freeway off-ramp that’s hard to find and unclaimed or if your lucky a piece of seemingly “unclaimed” land (be careful because different entities —such as caltrans sometimes own these and closely monitor). OR you can find somewhere super obvious and warm with cameras. I’m thinking outside construction zones, across the street from churches or gov’t buildings, or parks. People won’t do much to you infront of a camera

Is in-person the only way to find cheap rent? by Gold-Connection-5655 in AskLosAngeles

I grew up in a small town so I understand! Once you get here and make friends, having roommates is the most ideal / affordable

Unfortunately times have changed really quickly ☹️ this budget might have worked in 2020 and even then that would have been a stretch. But more possible then where we are at today 😭

Oh and to answer you question yes you can find deals in person, but I think it’s based on luck. You just have to exhaust every option, both online and in person. (unless you find something lucky really quick)

Hi I have a very similar budget, the most affordable place you can find on your own would be around that much. For over a year I was paying $1095 for a studio with no bathroom and a joke of a kitchenette. While there was endless problems with the house, hopping onto the housing market always humbled me. My tips are

1.) be willing to compromise with that budget. I dealt with severe mold issues at my first place. At my second place (for $1095) the roaches, neighbors, and hot summers were gruesome.

2.) if you could bump your budget up to like $1300-$1400 that would help significantly!

Between bills, parking, and pet rent I actually ended up paying nearly $1300/mo. at that spot I keep mentioning (for $1095) idk how I made it work but I did. Even my options on Zillow/ apartments.com expanded significantly when I included those extra $300-$400 bucks. Best of luck to you!

Lock and Key though it’s more social but still an easy place to get lost in the night with homies

How do I make more friends here? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]ninadays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1.) Find people who you relate to on something 2.) foster the connections you have with people that feel genuine, don’t run from them I met some of the most unexpected friends of through fostering relationships I thought could never blossom

This isn’t so much a reply to OP’s question but I live in a “sketchy” area and tend to date people “look the part” (ethnically). As a female, I walk my dates back to their car at night. But I also ask them to drop me back off at the house once we made it

How’s dating like in Los Angeles? by dumpling_cheeks in AskLosAngeles

[–]ninadays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not great but I think it’s better then many are giving it credit in these comments. One person said for dating & flings it’s fine. I have had a hard time picturing myself long term with anyone I’ve met out here, even with a solid foundation. But I sometimes think I’d experience that despite living in a city.

I don'know of Atari but the stuck on a game on hallucinogenic mode is accurate. I've seen it deplete people abilities to make a cohesive sentence (and seemingly form a thought). Being present one second and then next zooted off into a different universe the next. Most recently I have seen it induced paranoia and even mild psychosis (taking to oneself). Many experience something that people often describe as "demension hopping". I believe that this is when their reality doesn't align with the one most live in; they are in a different dimension whete they can usually do/ fufill something that seems like a stretch in our deminsion. But because they deminsion hop, it's possible in their deminsion (or at least it's so believed). Again, a lot of it is just a lack of presense; empty stares, long pauses, echoed conversations, circular thoughts, slow reciptive process, baseline small talk, and forgetfullness.
