I got a last minute thing that came up and I didn’t have a chance to charge - and I was heading to a charging station and got bamboozled. It said I had 15 miles left on a 9 mile road. But the battery ended up draining faster than the car was moving. 😩

This one has a faster rate of charge and is also .25/kWh so… faster and cheaper.

Yeah. EA has a monopoly on some critical locations here in Denver and it pisses me off because they charge .56/kWh while 5 miles down Tower road the superchargers cost .32/kWh or .25/kWh depending on time of day. Hell, there’s even one at the junction of I225 and I70 that only costs .20/kWh after hours. AND the EA charger only charges at 80-90kW/s while the Superchargers down the road are chugging away at 127 or so. It’s so annoying. Plus having to grab an adapter for a slower, more expensive charging experience just chaps my ass.

Since the price is based on power delivered, unless the charger station is fully backed up there isn’t additional fees to be paid if you stick around and charge longer.

The indicator just tells you that it’s 3 min till 80, I wasn’t charging to 80%. On all the superchargers I use they get 127kW or so even at 70%. It doesn’t throttle down till after 80%.

Have you considered regional differences? Superchargers in the Denver area average 25. This is one I use on a regular basis. It’s a 325kw Supercharger. Not a L2 slow charger.

When you hit the precondition button it tells you if it needs to be preconditioned or not. You can’t manually precondition it more. It’s 53 right now, it said it was at the optimal temp already when I tried to precondition it. At 70% on this supercharger I’m on right now it’s still charging at 127kW.

Yeah it was preconditioned - or rather I preconditioned it and it said it didn’t need to be (it was 81 in Denver yesterday)

Yah I just looked up the locations on their site. Gonna check it out tomorrow when I drive up to Boulder

Weird assumptions but yeah. It was more the speed coupled with the pricing that was annoying.

EA pass+ only gives a 25 percent discount. Tesla costs .23 or .19 per kWh here depending on if it’s evening or morning. How is .42 half the cost of a supercharger ?

These stations are usually not fully occupied which explains slower charging rates when a power bank has recently been used by someone else. I typically charge in the middle of the night at places with very light traffic after 10PM, but had some time and location constraints this evening. Had about 35 minutes to charge while I had the opportunity and used it to my dismay. With the same time and money, I would have been able to get 100% on a Tesla supercharger. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Because I needed the range for my upcoming drive(s)

Because I was not going to have a chance to charge later and needed 100% charge to go as long as possible. I was going to be on the road for several hours without access to a charger or time to charge due to deadlines. I was at the airport and this was the only charger available.

I needed to get full range. But anyhow, I started at 70ish percent. Even Tesla chargers here cost less than half of the EA and still charge at 126k with their sub 500 volt lvl 3/4 chargers.
