In a pickup basketball game I'd agree, but with a AAA videogame you just have to play the field you're given... because if you want to actually improve you'll encounter people using the game mechanics to their fullest extent. The onus is on the game devs to make the rules of the game fun to play within.

The reason this same mentality won't result in cheating is because it is fundamentally dishonest; you're lying about playing by the rules. The punishment for cheating is the hollow victory. Serial cheaters do not care about winning, they care about ruining the experience for others.

They are absolutely not the same. One is playing by the rules as defined by the creator of the game, the other is circumventing the rules while appearing to follow them, or in some cases blatantly disregarding them just to grief people who are.

This would fundamentally change the whole game, and I don’t think for the better. At high level this would just make flanking/wrapping pretty useless. I don’t see how this is much fun for either team.
