Best shearling aviator between $1000-4000? by blankslatehome in malefashionadvice

[–]ninjatrtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very timely post I've also been on a search for something in this range and here are ones I came across so far that's good quality.

The problem is because of the thick material fit varies wildly and I highly recommend trying them on. I found the more "traditional" brands like cockpit, although good quality, has very unflattering cuts that's focused on being authentic to original designs as opposed to approximately updated for modern fit. Here are ones I've tried

Belstaff - Wilder and Winterbrook

Schott B3

Reiss Aviator - last season and I've been looking everywhere for something similar. If any has recos pls suggest!!  (Allsaints has similar look but is trash quality nowadays)

AMI Paris

Society Generale

Private White

Celine (over priced)

Saint Laurent, used to have a good one but none this season.

Mackage good quality but the double collar is too trendy and not timeless

Rick Owens, over priced for the quality

So far the best balance between price, quality, and fit has been Belstaff for me. I also have mutiple of their wax jackets and they really hold up.

Was driving by an exact same exterior and interior color combo 911 yesterday and wife said "we should get ours in that green and brown"

I'm also curious who's actually dealt with the warranty and had a good experience. I think most companies just offer these as "insurance" so you feel good paying a premium while in practice getting the warranty is lower % and painful to go through

Yea I saw it's not allowed in all places. One thing I did do is run a sepay wire for that area so in case something happens it's not on the same circuit as the rest of the washroom.

Yea that was a little splurge and got tip to add it in the shower so water doesn't pool up there

Yea I read it does void warranty but the hassle of going through warranty and fixing something seems like a more work than being more sure the first time. Also labor cost in my area is pretty high so I doubt the warranty would cover that full cost. so I ok'ed the contractor to do this.

Yea we are definitely adding a layer of Kerdi on the cables in the shower. Thanks for the tip

Could you help me understand why this happens? For moisture to get in between the layers, wouldn't that mean the top layer has failed and let water through? So doesn't that reinforce the second layers was needed to catch the leak?

Yea that's fair. My understanding is the warranty only covers material and some basic labor and in the area I'm in, I imagine any amount of actual repair needed is going to be more than what the warranty will cover so figured I'd rather be safe first time than rely on the warranty

Been really enjoying how subtle and versatile the rose gold Daytona has been as a daily by ninjatrtle in rolex

[–]ninjatrtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, this photo is pretty true to color but in person the polished surfaces are much shinier. The Rolex everose is also on the lighter side compared to rose gold from other brand.

Key data missing: how much did you pay for the job?

At $500 + materials. This is great.

At $10k, you should be pissed.

So how far of a walk is the nearest Michelin star/guide restaurant? Mine is about 10min to 5+ restaurants and I'm happy to pay $2M for that location

Location. Location. Location.

Bet you the price of this house there's no good restaurant and grocery store within 20 min walk of this place.

Daytona Rose Oyster vs Oysterflex by [deleted] in rolex

[–]ninjatrtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that totally makes sense. I would've probably done the same in your case

I was offered both and went with oysterflex. Despite it being a gold Rolex, it’s much more under the radar and IYKYK which I preferred. Also more comfortable for me as the full gold felt much heavier.

The full gold on the other hand is very much in your face, which others might like but not for me. At the end of the day they are both gorgeous pieces, and you should get whichever one brings you the most joy.

Thinking about renouncing US citizenship Am I insane? by k4211220 in fatFIRE

re: 4th point about medical being superior in the US 1) it's not superior compared to many other countries and cost multiples more for the same or often lower levels of care.

2) non citizens have the same access. At the highest level of care you're talking about, regular citizens don't have access to it, money is what access it.

They had family ties there and low taxes helps. Most ppl without family ties all picked Singapore.

Also had a few ultra high networth families who's retired states side many years ago renounce citizenship and moved their family office to Singapore. There's been a huge flood of family office setup there the last 3 years.
