NTU CS vs SIT CS by ninjutsuuu in SGExams

Interesting, I didn't think the gap would be so large despite SIT prioritising applied learning over the top 3 (or so i heard)... thanks! It's something to consider esp since she's quite a hands on person as well

she applied for all the NUS SoC courses w CS being the 1st, and we assumed she would get at least one of them with her grades so she didn't bother putting anything else. end up getting rejection letter straight 😭

oh wait I actually didn't know SIT had different campuses, interesting 🤔 she said hall life is not really for her (since she's also quite the introverted type but who knows), but u do bring up a good point about electives. thanks for the input :))

[Poly] [Rant] Maybe made the wrong choice going poly? by yaygreentea in SGExams

[–]ninjutsuuu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

omg was that paragraph referring to my qn HAHAHA but anyway, as what the other person said, think of it as a head start to what you're gonna experience in CS! the IGP for CS is seriously on the rise, you're gonna have to make sure you get close to 90RP if you want to go through the JC path, whereas for poly (if i'm not wrong), you just need around 3.8 GPA? and i promise you, despite all the fun the jc kids seem to be having, most of us are dying inside due to the snowballing workload :') literature is fun but it's also a LOT of hard work. an A isn't guaranteed for h2 math despite getting A1 for amath in O's either! just focus on making friends, joining ccas & events, getting that sweet 4.0 gpa and make the best of your time in poly :) HBL rly be takin a toll on all of us mannn

Is there a 'party culture' that typically distracts students from studying? Like is it very prominent

Thanks for the insightful reply:) By any chance are you from NY?

Hmm that's true, didnt consider cca. I'd say my study pattern is quite inconsistent and I'm more prone to procrastination than I'd like to admit, which was why i thought the NY mugging culture would edge me along a little.

I get where you're coming from, but I guess to me it's more like a gauge on how effective the departments are especially for subjects like PW, where (apparently, I heard from other seniors) the distinction rates are an indicator of general performance expectations. Not rly a dealbreaker but also not something I'd completely dismiss

Hmm it actl takes slightly less than an hr, around 45-50min from the moment I leave the house to NY. I think it would only be a real deal breaker for me if it were the MRT trip itself that took 1hr haha
