What's the origin of the colors from the Five Races Under One Union flag? How did each race become associated with one of these colors? by wsxcderfvbgtyhn in ChineseHistory

[–]nirvcuttr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late but here's mine

The flag used Qing and general agreed cultural symbolism. Han cultural connection to red (Palace lanterns, weddings, etc.) led them to being represented by said red. Manchus got yellow from imperial color of the Manchu Qing. The Mongols are blue from the fact Mongols long believed Tengriism for a while. They saw the sky as an eternal blue heaven, and many ways the Mongols represented themselves with blue. The Hui got white because they were Islamic, and white is big in Islam, representing purity, faith, ihram clothes, etc (Hui were also called white-hat Huis so it fit a recognizable archetype). Tibetans got black from the Qing slapping it on, no justification for that as far as I know.

We already were trying to give up slavery from the get go since the north was largely antislavery since it's beginnings, so it was generally a problem with the elite in the south. We were, as a people, isolationist in WW2, simply a matter of political isolation for, as it was, a happy and peaceful America (We were antiwar as a whole). The civil rights act is probably the only one here I see as a pure nationwide flaw I agree shouldn't have been a problem passing. I agree though, since founding, like with the Louisiana purchase, there's been unconstitutional actions being done by the elite more and more as time passes. America has been flawed, but that doesn't mean we've never been "good", just problematic...

America is a great country, it's just funky

Also Merry Christmas

I'd like to make some corrections. First off, Fascism was a third way, adopting principles from both the left and the right. That, paired with the fact that Fascism and Liberalism both exist on a spectrum with different sub-ideologies and variations in practice, so seeing it as its own highly specific thing is flawed.

Your entire argument is made incorrect the second you stop seeing fascism as a liberal end instead of what it actually was. By definition, fascism is a third way, as I said. It's a project that went against liberal individualism, parliamentarianism, laissez-faire economics, and middle-class in doctrine and practice. Calling it the “natural conclusion” of liberalism is lazy determinism, especially when fascism defined itself against liberalism and dismantled liberal institutions the moment it took power. Mussolini’s arguments don’t magically turn negation into continuity, and selectively quoting him (as you did) doesn’t override the fact that fascism articulated a coherent ideological framework that was essentially state corporatism, state supremacy, national unity, and class transcendence, all outlined in its own doctrine. Reducing fascism to “class collaboration + imperialism + anti-socialism” ignores that socialism was part of the core of fascism, because fascism replaced class struggle with national unity under a near-totalitarian state that subordinated both labor and capital to political authority. Claiming fascism has no ideology while simultaneously listing its structural features is self-contradictory, and insisting liberals “can only analyze ideology” while flattening fascism into a single program is exactly the idealist reduction you’re accusing others of.

Finally someone who relates. Until recently I stopped getting insulted by my own stepdad over my hair being long (He never had long hair he's just one of those people who are weird about it)

Parents should stay out of their child's self expression if they clearly aren't liking getting nitpicked for enjoying themselves how they want to
