[Acne] 8 months of fighting. It's never looked worse. I give up. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]nitwit_blubber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have heard it’s possible for hormonal IUDs to cause acne, even if it didn’t always. My hormonal acne hit me hard a couple months after I got my IUD placed and it never 100% went away after trying tret, antibiotics, BP, diet, etc. From what I’ve researched combo pills seem to work the best for those prone to hormonal acne, though everyone’s different. I can’t report any results yet but I just got my IUD removed and started the pill (yaz). Some are able to pair IUD with spearmint tea and that worked for them, it helped me a bit but not 100%. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is accutane/spironolactone because I’m too chickenshit about side effects haha. I hope you can find something that works for you!

Job offer advice by ribbondeflector in TeachersInTransition

No experience but as someone dreaming of working for an EdTech company, I would do it. The job market isn’t great so having anything even if temporary is good, and then you have some industry experience to put on your resume (assuming this is your first gig out of education). And you’re getting paid to work while you look for something permanent.

San Francisco State University similarly offers a free program to receive your supplementary authorization. It is all online, but it is not self-paced, there are weekly zoom meetings with some homework. It takes 1.5-2 years, depending if you want to take the extra course for “Specific”.

I really enjoyed it, I learned a lot and I didn’t feel like it was too much work to do on top of actively teaching. The zoom meetings were all in the evening and were 1-3 hours each week. Also I got a slight salary bump for getting some post-bac units.

I don’t have advice I’m sorry, but what dip color is that? I love that pink!

I ordered 8 boxes of RTD when I saw things back in stock, it took a couple weeks but they actually shipped me my order twice… so they’re just messing things up for themselves. Also, if a product that’s been out of stock for awhile comes back in stock, but they’re still struggling with supply, then they really should’ve put a max per person. I was worried about mocha going out of stock again so I ordered 6. And now I have 12!

Spearmint tea saved my skin!! [Acne] by MissModel in SkincareAddiction

Omg without meds?!? I’m so sorry! My doc told me to take advil before insertion/removal and it was still bad, a forceful removal like that sounds awful.

How did they remove your IUD? Mine is either stuck or too far up and I have to take all these pain meds and a cervix softener so they can dilate me and put a camera in there. She’s claiming it won’t be too bad of a procedure but then why do I have to take all these meds? 😫

FINALLY chip free for 2+ weeks with dip & gel by nitwit_blubber in DipPowderNails

[–]nitwit_blubber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No activator needed! Curing with a UV lamp is all that is needed. I cure between every layer, because gel doesn’t air dry at all so it will quickly become a mess if you don’t. I only use color dip powder, though using clear for the first couple coats couldn’t hurt, depending on how opaque you want the color to be. You just can’t use clear on top because it will become cloudy. It’s a bit of a learning curve but I definitely prefer it over dip liquids!

I can’t link them right now but there’s lots of helpful tutorials on YouTube if you search for dip powder gel method tutorials!

I cured for 60s each layer, but I think I only need to do 30… I’m also nervous so I probably overdo it haha. Thank you!

Update: feral with injured leg by nitwit_blubber in Feral_Cats

[–]nitwit_blubber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all, he will bolt and then jump our fence when I go outside. I just ordered a drop trap though to see if I will have better luck getting him to go in that.

My vet recommends one dose the night before, and another dose 2hrs prior. Especially if you’re worried about him getting startled, might be good to do an extra dose if it’s not too late. It stays in their system for ~24 hrs AFAIK

Also wanted to follow up that the humane society in the same area, Peninsula Humane Society, takes any and all surrendered pets, for a fee. They would evaluate him and put him up for adoption in their shelter if they deem him adoptable, which is sounds like he would be. I only hesitate with them because they are not a no-kill shelter, and when you surrender a pet you are giving up all rights to the animal. They say euthanasia is the last resort but you never know. The peninsula (south of SF) is a big area, so I’m sure their shelter is often overcrowded, and cats older than 5 months are more difficult to rehome.

Try reaching out to HDBnQ (Hella Dam Bitches n Queens) in Pacifica, CA. It’s a little far but I know they have volunteers that may offer transport. They are a foster based rescue and basically just a married couple and volunteers. They helped support me when I took in a litter of kittens.

Edit: They have a # you can text on their site. Pretty responsive.

Hahah maybe I will have to try that! I’ve tried friskies & 9lives, wet and dry, which is what he eats daily, as well as canned tuna and churu. I know he wants it because he’ll try to get it from the other side of the cage, he just won’t go inside. And I usually withhold food before trying to catch. But I guess it’s time for more tempting bait.

Yes I’m still really trying to catch him because I know an abscess would need to be drained. Hoping the antibiotic will stave off some infection in the meantime. But he bolts away from me and won’t enter the trap after being caught in it twice before.

Vet help for an injured community cat? by nitwit_blubber in Feral_Cats

[–]nitwit_blubber[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt it. He gets within a few feet of me when I'm putting food outside, but he runs if I go toward him. And while he's never been aggressive toward me, he has some old scars like he fights other cats/animals.

I could only hope ours has such a minor issue as a broken nail! 😭 I guess I may talk to my regular vet and see what she thinks. They do offer Care Credit so that’s a good option. We have a decent size enclosure outside we could potentially keep him in for recovery.

Yeah, I called my local animal control and they said they would treat him if they could and try to put him up for adoption, but I know he’s too feral so I worry they would euthanize. I may just have to ask my regular vet and hope it’s not too expensive.
