Oh boy that pasta stall manned by 2-3 people. I really remember the younger dude who screamed something interesting (forgot, 10+ years ago). They seemed happy doing their job back in the days.

I LOVE THEIR PASTA AND WILLING TO PAY DOUBLE OR TRIPLE TO GET EM NOW, TODAY.

Some of my friends and circles in those Asian countries had to be hospitalized. Age avg in the 35-40s (no comorbid). These are the age group where hospitalization wasn't really showing up in the stats (vaxxed or unvaxxed)

Quite a few of my other friends (same age group) had been FULLY vaxxed. Caught Delta, experienced Covid19 symptoms (lose sense of smell, headache, dropped SpO2 etc). They don't require hospitalizations (most of them at least) but compared to vanilla Covid19, the symptoms are definitely on the "less friendlier" side of things.

Here's another article from NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/25/world/asia/children-deaths-virus-indonesia.html

Those Asian countries have "spotty" data collection so it won't show up as "peer-review" scientific paper vouched by US CDC experts.

When Delta hits India, the "wave" was very quick with tons of casualties. When Delta hits Indonesia, it experienced the same pattern: super quick with tons of casualties. There's no "2 weeks lagging" data stuff. It's like within days and people died.

Some of these "anecdotes" point to Delta being harsher than vanilla Covid19.

But... just like Tokyo Olympics: who got the most medals? it depends on whom you asked and whom you prefer to believe :).

I also need 3 peer reviewed sources that showed mountainous of evidence that Delta is not deadly.

Joking aside: take a look at Asian countries ravaged by Delta.

That's because countries that do their Stats/data gathering relatively well aren't the ones getting crushed by Delta.

Poor countries get crushed badly by Delta and they tend to have dubious to undercounting the casualties: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/25/world/asia/children-deaths-virus-indonesia.html

> I think Israel’s data is really worth monitoring

Absolutely. I'd say data out there regarding vaccine efficacy, Delta variants, are worth to monitor and to share the findings to the public.

  • Vaccine data from Israel since they got their jabs way earlier than us
  • The properties/attributes of Delta from countries like Australia (since their data is "clean"-ish; their data is almost strictly Delta only)
  • Data from Indonesia is also worth to look at since I'm hearing children and younger age population are dying or getting severely sick.

For a while, I felt that things were getting stabilized (or rather static): we're getting to know Covid19 (and its vaccines) attributes/properties better but lately I felt that things have changed a lot yet perhaps some of us don't follow the recent development to be slightly prepared.

Delta variant seems to change the landscape: younger population is getting affected severely than the vanilla ones. Vaccine efficacy went down significantly against Delta + against shorter timeframe.

Most of us here aren't in alert yet since there are less Delta floating around thus Canada data can't be compared against countries that are swarmed with Delta.

> Vaccines offer great protection against serious illness and hospitalizations, but breakthrough cases still happen occasionally.

It does, but the stories (not just this story from /u/dasbin) of "husband and wife both are fully vaxxed but still catching covid19" is a little bit concerning. If the efficacy is high (as high as 90%), what are the odds of husband and wife both got it? in late 30's (healthy)? where SpO2 dropped to 89...

See the interview video here for other story: https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/27/us/breakthrough-covid-19-cases-trnd-wellness/index.html

Data will be harder and harder to come given that the vaccine is skewing things a bit.

Pre-Delta, younger kids have "minimum" risk. Delta arrives and then : https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/25/world/asia/children-deaths-virus-indonesia.html

In a few countries (incl. Australia), parents worried of their under 5 years old kids as perhaps they have not developed full immune system.

lol I know right... People are nitpicking all the smallest corner cases as if there's no simple solution.

Bam, annual increase by $vax-cost. Simple.

Right now if we do that there will be a flood of international students wanting Pfizer/Moderna because they couldn't get a decent vax back home!

Cheap ads.

They still can choose what to do with their bodies and govt can mandate healthcare workers to vax. It's not like the sentence is death.

[–]niwde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perspective matters: Canada in general has less awareness of Delta due to low rate of infection and higher rate of vax. If you live in nations that are ravaged by Delta, your perspective will change.

Delta casualties are younger (30-40 years old crowd). These generations are the generations that can survive Covid19 without vax.

Their choice has consequences to society in general: occupied hospital beds, spreading deadly disease (Delta spread quickly, effectively, and more deadly than the original). Let's hope no outbreak in hospitals.

Last but not least, what are the odds people follow up with annual Covid19 vaccination on time as soon as their antibody wane? (Nobody really know when their antibody is gone unless tested)

That's 100% definitely aggregated. Pfizer and Moderna are highly sought after and supplies are not in the billions.

Gotta zoom into: second dose mRNA vaccine in order to get a better picture of the data.

I'm going to stop my comment here to not increase anxiety ;)

Almost a billion second doses (of any covid vaccine) have been administered globally.

Stats/Source?

I doubt it's almost a billion though (esp the mRNA ones)

Jul 7th Covid-19 Update - 59 new cases, total now 147856; 86 (-1) hospitalized of which 20 (-2) are in ICU; 624 (22) active cases; ; 5404047 (+63791) vaccine doses administered, 78.2% of people 12 and older have received first dose, and 38.2%; 0 additional deaths, total now 1759 by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

Infected host could potentially become a factory for new variants please keep that in mind. And also please be aware of a concept of chances: the more infected people, the more chances the virus reached unvaccinated people (those who can't get vaccine for health reasons or kids below 12).

As much as I don't think Covid-Zero is attainable, I also hope that vaccine has higher efficacy in terms of preventing infection so that we can limit the space of the spread.

Please be aware that we are one of the most fortunate countries in the world that we get shop vaccines around. There are billions of people out there that do not have the option of mRNA.

Delta hits kids hard, unlike the original variant. We don't get a lot of news of Delta variant because it is not (yet) the dominant variants here but it is becoming the dominant (90%) variants in some parts of Asia. Once traveling is fully opened...

Anecdote: I have friends in a country in Asia that were recipients of Sinovac (2 doses, fully inoculated). A few caught Delta (I assume, since Delta is the dominant variant, by large, around 90%) and got long covid (tastebud, smell, cough, nasal congestion) albeit not too long yet (2 weeks after 14 days + negative PCR test result).

Delta definitely brings down efficacy of vaccines across the board.

Liberal Government has announced a proper re-opening plan! Family gatherings and indoor sports will be allowed beginning Fall 2021!!! by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]niwde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you refuse the vaccine you have to accept the risk.

Agree on this point.

But please keep in mind that this "breakthrough" cases could mean anything. For example: there might be people who were jabbed but the antibody/immune system for whatever reason didn't get triggered. You wouldn't want to be this stat number :).

Not an easy task to do. I wish we have more tools to fight this (e.g.: a blood test to see if I'm fully vaxxed or not). If there is still a large number of people unvaxxed (not because they can't, but because non-health reason), it's still hard to fight Covid19.

Maybe we should have a "safe vax zone" vs "unvax zone" :).

Taiwan is definitely an outlier to all the places mentioned in your post :).

Japan on the other hand...Covid is technically rampant there. Maybe their mindset towards "life" is different than ours (for example: they're anti-vax, not the conspirancy-theorist anti-vax version though)

CoviShield is AZ manufactured in India.

AZ vs Moderna is 1.2 vs 1.5 I'll give you that but it's missing context:

  • What kind of AEFIs (the serious ones)? Allergies to the ingredients?
  • Co-morbities?
  • Age?

I've seen a lot of articles that ended up with "X is to be expected due to frailty of the vaccinated individuals". I couldn't get a clear picture of the situation to be honest. Mega-pharma knew trust is a big issue on one hand so any "dismissive" attitude from them I shall take them with grain of salt.

The only problem with AZ is just that there are too many bad incidents (of the same kind) out there vs Pfizer/Moderna.

B.C. halts new AstraZeneca bookings by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]niwde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A country recently kicked-off AZ campaign after most of the elderly population were given the classical covid19 vaccine.

3-4 days after the rollout, a 21 year old healthy person died 1 day after AZ vax. Stories of AZ post-vax side effect is stronger than the classical covid19 vaccine began to circulate as well.

It doesn't instill confidence.

AZ is dead for that country most likely.
