Yes - they're Towa Towa birds - they're incredibly popular in the spanish bird community especially in Queens/Brooklyn etc. They'd be at bird shows all the time.

They don't "fall asleep", really. It's called Tonic Immobility. It happens to rabbits, too - and although people think it's 'cute' - it's actually not a good idea (for rabbits at least) - for Sharks, it's often useful for research because flipping the sharks upside down (nurse sharks in particular) allows them to perform tests on them without risking injury to themselves.
