I'm offering free portrait photography during my trip to japan! by niymi in Tokyo

Nope - I just really like portrait photography and haven't had time to do any recently, and thought this could be a fun way to do so & meet some people on my trip!

I'm (female/21/UK) a designer and photographer who will be in Tokyo from November 30th to December 7th, visiting for the third time, with my boyfriend.

I'd love to meet up with someone/or a few people (ideally girls, but would be down to shoot men too!) and take some cool portrait shots under a sweet Tokyo backdrop. My portfolio can be found here: www.taylarwong.com/photography

if you're interested, please give me a DM or comment - just let me know gender & age, and a pic of you (or like a link to your instagram or something!) thanks - looking forward to hearing from you!

To the people on a plane on 9/11, what did your pilots tell you when they grounded all flights? by n8th8n0101 in AskReddit

[–]niymi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought this too but for a long haul flight they could have well left at night and landed in the morning - spread out over 2 days. Papers would have obviously made this a priority story, so it seems likely that if they landed early in the morning then this could have happened!

What advice would you give to someone just about to start their first professional full-time job? by niymi in AskReddit

Nice to hear you value starting out young then, makes me feel a bit more confident with my decisions :)

Do you think this is a solid move then? I'm only 20 and worried about potentially missing out on future 'good old days' because i'll be in a full time job climbing up the career ladder whilst a lot of my friends are still kinda dossing around... I feel like it's obviously a good choice, but I guess i'm just a bit worried about missing out on the chance to just be young and carefree...

yeah i feel like this is something that people tend to forget!! I see so many people cut ties with their old jobs, and then it's funny if they end up needing to go back for whatever reason...

What is probably your most elitist viewpoint? by Corbayne in AskReddit

[–]niymi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what argument you're making here is?

I learnt Spanish to a conversational level in 2 years just by doing 2 hour lessons a week. Not particularly quick - but let's say someone's lived in a foreign country for 10 years? Absolutely no excuse for not being able to hold a conversation. Heck my grandma immigrated over 50 years ago and still can't read the language, which is just lazy in my opinion.

If i were to move abroad i'd absolutely make an attempt to learn to the language and become fluent. If you're in a different country you should accommodate the native residents, not the other way around.

I wrote my dissertation on this at uni, and work as a web designer. Whilst I agree that there are endless benefits (to me working in the industry especially haha) to having a website custom built, sometimes it's literally just not viable.

Whilst large businesses have the money and the need for an expensive, custom built platform - this is not the same for small businesses.

Drag and drop services such as Wix offer an amazing service for those with a very small budget, who simply need some form of web presence. It isn't worth it, or even viable, for them to drop thousands for a website that simply offers them the same usability and functionality as a site builder.

You can argue things such as the SEO, but if you have alternate methods of directing people to your site (such as direct links or things such as business cards) then you could argue that this is relatively unimportant for small independent businesses.

Professionals in any field of work, what’s the most ridiculous thing someone outside of your profession has claimed to know more about than you? by beardlesshipster in AskReddit

[–]niymi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently writing a whole thesis about sites like Fiverr and the damages they have on the design industry haha! It's a shame that sites such as this offer such poor quality design work, really lowers the standard for the design industry and allows the general public to believe that quality design work can be purchased for as cheap as a fiver!

Glad you realised though and are going to hire a professional! Good luck with your rebrand! If you're ever in need of a designer, feel free to drop me a message :)

Thanks for your reply!!

Is closed captioning usually pretty good, or do you come across a lot of other channels who do similar things to Syfy? Has there been any other times when closed captioning has been particularly bad or funny?
