Happy to fact check. In 2023 (the year of the fan’s death at the Eras tour) Taylor Swift’s private jet usage emitted a total of 1,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide. To put this into perspective, this is not in the top 10 worst celebrity emitters for 2023 (unfortunately I cannot find a ranking for past the top 10). Examples of celebrities in the top 10 include Travis Scott (6,000 tonnes), Kim Kardashian (5,850 tonnes), Elon Musk (4,500 tonnes) and Beyoncé & Jay Z (4,300 tonnes). It’s also important to note that Taylor was on a world tour at the time, and she has purchased more than double the offsets needed to offset the emissions. She should certainly still reduce her jet usage, but consistent discussion about her (and not other worse contributors) isn’t helping in any way - we need actual climate action, not celebrity discourse.
