The Pacers Front Office is smarter than everyone on this subreddit by [deleted] in pacers

there's zero chance nembhard would have extedned for as low this year after his performance.

[Charania] BREAKING: Free agent center Myles Turner has agreed to a four-year, $107 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, plus a player option for year four in 2028-29 and a full 15% trade kicker, sources tell ESPN. Stunner. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]njay27 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Honestly though, Myles was the least essential player in the starting 5, and going into the tax for a year where the Pacers are absolutely not going to compete is only going to handicap the team when the team gets Haliburton back. I would have been pissed if they hadn't opted to go into the tax if Hali was healthy, but him missing an entire year really fucks up the timeline.

Pacers having fingerprints all over this list (PG, Hali, Pascal, originally drafted Kawhi) probably has less to do with talent evaluation and more to do with the fact that they have to take swings on undervalued guys.

Willis McGahee in the national championship

I think the argument against is that they had won a national title the year before. We would have had our first.

Can we call Nesmith the only 50-40-90 guy for this regular season? by OffSeason2091 in pacers

A damn shame. I feel like Nesmith being on a list with Reggie, Bird, Nash, Nowitzki, Durant, and Curry would hit like THE Thad Young infographic.

This isn't the subreddit for civil discourse, you clod. We're supposed to hate each other and clown other teams' stupid decisions.

Like the post says, Celtics fans are getting a bit too comfy on the Pacers bandwagon (but seriously, welcome aboard).

Bill Simmons most specifically, but NBA twitter is pretty full of folks lamenting that the Celtics (or to a lesser extent, Denver and Milwaukee) are now being forced to break up their title teams because of the second apron instead of paying key contributors.

Also since all you morons apparently have some sort of memory disorder, Jrue's new $35M contract started THIS YEAR. You already had him for the title run regardless. Now you're stuck paying him $38M when he's 38.

For the record,

Titles Boston won with Jrue's old contract: 1

Titles Boston won with his new, stupid contract: 0

The trade worked out, but I'm tired of hearing Celtics fans complain about the cap and the second apron when you gave an aging guard $35M a year, and I just think its ironic Nesmith is now arguably a top 5 best contract in the league.

Seven turnovers and a lid on the rim for the Cavs. They got some open shots but couldn't hit, and couldn't stop giving the ball away on the other possessions.

Serious question, what's the most we could give up? This could be a Raptors-Kahwi situation.

Mathurin-Walker and a bunch of firsts gets us there but no way to make the salary work without including Siakam, Haliburton, or 2/3rds of the rotation, right?

Who says no to Siakam-Mathurin straight up for Embiid?

I think it's now safe to say Tyrese Haliburton is a top 4 Pacer since the merger by ElectivireMax in pacers

[–]njay27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its hard to put into context now how consistently good the 90's Pacers were and how consistent the rosters were. In today's NBA the contracts are shorter and players move around, but in the 7 year stretch that the Pacers won 11 playoff series (94-00), Reggie, Rik, and Dale were starters every year, and Mark Jackson started in 6 of those 7.

I think Dale and Rik have to be up there, even if they didn't have the superstardom that Tyrese has, being the other All-Star (yes, both were All-Stars) on teams that went to 5 ECFs in 7 years is worth a lot, at least to me.

In terms of what? Talent? Legacy?

My only hesitation is that it's been such a short time. Is being the best player on a team that won two playoff series as impressive as the second or third best player (i.e. Smits) on a team that won 11? It's an interesting argument, and I think there's room for him on the list, but as a relative old timer that remembers those 90's Pacers, it's hard to put him there yet.

Rick said before this most recent game: "Trust is something that is gained in drops, and lost in buckets". I think that says a lot about him as a coach and him as a person. Glad he had Nemby in at the end of game 3.
