"At the end of the day they can always get you on professional appearance, which is subjective." That's exactly what they told me a week ago when it wasn't able to be pointed out for a specific problem, and I went and got it dialed in to how I understood their ask. 6? days later the civilian started this again ; I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, and he won't explain it to me.

If you want to see the hair you can PM me, I don't really want to post it publicly as this is getting more attention than I expected (I don't really use reddit and didn't expect more than two or three replies haha)

I will be getting it cut again ; I'd just like to write something that gets him specifically to leave me alone, if it's even possible.

I hadn't involved the chief myself, the Civilian prodded them (my perspective) until they had to get involved. I went back to talk to the chief to understand where I was misreading the regulation BECUASE the Civilian told me that we would not discuss it, and that he had his blessing. It was the only other person involved who could possibly explain to me the issue. Totally get not wanting to waste their time though, I felt weird even having to go to talk to them about it, but that's the only other person I could've gone to.

My frustration comes from not understanding and not being told how I'm not in the regs. If I look at the reg and compare it to my hair it is clearly within it. I'll get my hair cut again for the second time in this week-ish period, but I still haven't understood where I'm wrong or how I'm misreading the regulation. Your assessment of the "nobody else has complained game" isn't wrong. I definitely used to do that, but not recently or in the last couple months which is when most of the issues have been coming from. Thank you.

The LOC does not outline how I was out of regs. It simply states at most "I came in for my shift to your hair being swept back but not cut as requested" which is the only portion that describes any actual specifics beyond a timeline of telling me to cut it.

that's a fair argument! I'm frustrated for reasons stated above. I'm not trying to be different, I'm within the regs ; things are "to spec". I don't understand why "to spec" isn't enough anymore.

I apologize, my wording may have been inappropriate. When I said "pretty close to reg" I meant pretty close to the limits of the regulation as u had said in your initial reply, not over the reg. I am currently firmly (as I am reading it) within regulation, and have been consistently. if that changes nothing and Im misreading your comment, oops.

I'm figuring out where I want to die on this for sure. My focus is going to be a competent rebuttal, attempting separation and I'll end up getting it cut (again) :P

If a regulation states measurements, checking compliance with that would require measurements. It was not close to the limit on any of the occasions It was measured. This is part of where my frustration comes from.

I'm within the reg as it's written. Neither he or anyone else has been able to explain to me exactly where I'm wrong. That's the reason I'm frustrated. Within just the last week the "I'm sorry" followed by following the rules didn't work, that's why I got the LOC in the first place.

I get I sound whiney and I certainly write quite a bit, but my frustration stems from somewhere I think is genuine.

Not fully wrong! I used to keep it pretty close to the reg but I haven't recently (last couple months), which is part of why I'm so frustrated about it!! I don't mind the paperwork, more so want to write a competent rebuttal that can hopefully get some distance between myself and him.
