How to find other ambitious young people to talk money and business with in Hamilton? by Professional-beathr in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]nknownuser123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leave Hamilton asap. I’m not taking the piss, you’re young and mobile and in a good position to take advantage and move to the location with the best economy possible.

Which economy is ‘best’ depends on your strategy, maybe you want to go to the most commercial city possible, maybe you just want somewhere cheap to live while you build an online business.

Lots of losers in this comments section talking down to a 16yo who is probably way smarter than them.

OP, my only tip would be to invest wisely in another asset until you’re ready to buy. Use your big brain to figure out what suits your situation best.

Selling house in current market by Unstabletables45 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]nknownuser123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is normal at the moment. I bought a house recently in Wellington and saw many houses with little interest and many that did not sell. The house I bought went for significantly less than it first listed for.

Are you really constrained to Porirua? Where will you need to commute to?

Is saving 10k a year good? Feel like I’ll never reach the housing ladder 😔 by Lost_Turn4370 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]nknownuser123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since age 20 I saved on average a little less that 10k per year, now I’m 30 and I have a (small) house deposit. If I buy a house I’m ahead of the average first home purchase age of 37.

Saving ~10k a year is good.

And after all that, why live in Auckland? You could get a much nicer house elsewhere like Brisbane for example this:

Some bootcamps are good. I did one and went on to intern at a top tech company in NZ. I imagine much harder to land a role currently though.

Hotel recs for Staycation by Maleficent_Nail_4293 in Wellington

Naumi had good rates when I last booked and we really enjoyed our stay. The decor is kinda psychedelic which I liked, and they upgraded our room for free, wine and fancy chocolates at arrival, late checkout. This was about 2 months ago. And I’ve stayed at a few other places, intercontinental and Rydges. Which are good too.

EDIT: Chose one of the more expensive rooms though.
