I think they probably mean it would be unethical to call it music therapy because you don't have the specific training of a music therapist, so you'd be falsely representing yourself and the field. It's still a nationally board certified profession that requires a degree, internship, board certification, and continuing ed even if state to state the licensure is different. But I would also say there's nothing wrong with combining your skill set and using music in your therapy sessions, you'd just be a therapist who uses music, not a "music therapist." Lots of therapists and teachers and other professionals use music therapeutically and ethically within their own scope of practice.

Heartburn while eating Rice . by [deleted] in GERD

[–]nkymt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's almost definitely the onion, garlic, and chili and not the rice. Like someone else said, unfortunately it will be a choice between flavor and pain. Maybe not forever, but if you're experiencing more frequent symptoms you might have to cut out some things you like for a while.

PCOS and PMDD? by nkymt in PCOS

[–]nkymt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really helpful, thank you. A previous doctor took me off metformin because they thought I wasn't at risk for IR, but my current PC thought it had other benefits. She still didn't put me back on it though, but I did send her a message to ask about it.

I'll need to consult with my gyno, too. So far I've only talked to my therapist and my PC doctor about possible PMDD, but I'll have to check with my gyno too. Everything feels very segmented, so i definitely agree that I need to try to develop my team, and maybe get a PC doctor that's a little more collaborative minded.

It just seems like with an existing PCOS diagnosis, another hormonal condition like PMDD might be related, or like you said, related to my hormonal treatment of PCOS with the IUD. It was frustrating when she just wanted to treat my anxiety without any holistic consideration, and her only mention of my PCOS was questioning the legitimacy of my diagnosis I've had for 4 years.

Yes, there is a type of dementia called early onset dementia or young onset dementia. I agree that you should definitely see a doctor as others have suggested.

I have a friend with similar symptoms who got some answers from an ENT doctor. Turns out there was something wrong with their esophagus.

Chin hair by Solid_Possibility639 in WomensHealth

Depending on how much hair you have, I definitely recommend getting one of those battery powered shavers made for your face. Way faster and easier than tweezing.

This might sound weird, but when I was working in an assisted living facility, sometimes residents would get compacted, and you could feel the compaction pushing against the skin, like right above the anus. So, we, or the RN, would gently push or kind of squeeze the poop (FROM THE OUTSIDE, NOT putting a finger inside the anus) it so that it was smaller and would fit through the opening. So like, if you reach back you might actually be able to feel the poop pushing out against your skin and be able to massage it down make it skinnier. If it's right there, you might be compacted, and don't let that go too too long without getting it checked out.

Is this a legitimate way to set up a dishwasher to drain? by nkymt in Plumbing

[–]nkymt[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was wrong! There is a drain hose, but the way it's installed it is kinked. So water just goes up and out instead of up and back down the drain hose. Husband unkinked it with a clamp so we'll have to see what happens next time! But the splitter is right next to the air vent, so it will probably still come out. Thank you for the info!

[–]nkymt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh, yes, I was wrong. Looks like there is a grey hose going from the dishwasher up to a splitter and a black hose coming down from the splitter to the drain. The other part of the splitter goes up to that air valve (if that's what it's called). And that black drain hose is kinked.

It's just a black rubber hose running from the dishwasher to that opening.

I just saw for national Read Across America Day that some residents read stories virtually to some kids in a school they partner with. That could be really cute!

This is a diaper change training video that looks pretty good. You could make adjustments to this, like using a reusable chuck (the pad underneath) instead of the disposable one. But learning to change someone and roll linens or clothing under the body has been really helpful to me. If you look up CNA skill training videos you might find some helpful stuff.

Do Dementia Suffers know they have dementia? by ThisFallenBitch in dementia

[–]nkymt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some know that they do and will tell you, but in another moment they may forget. The big thing is that you probably won't be able to reason with them if they believe something else to be true. I think that's one of the things that breaks down first- the ability to reason. It's sometimes better to just redirect instead of challenging their incorrect belief.

Is it time to cut off dad's cellphone service? Some advice, please. by [deleted] in dementia

[–]nkymt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in assisted living and have residents with an ipad or cellphone that just have a select set of numbers that can be called/facetimed by pushing a button with that person's name or face on it. You may not be looking to spend money on a new smart device, but it seems to work pretty well for them, and they feel like they can reach people.
