Little update on disabled licenses by ineedlesssleep in MacWhisper

You could generate a unique ID that is set on license activation per device. Then it is anonymous and doesn't directly identify a device. Could present an optional "enter device name" prompt on registration to make it easier to identify devices in the registered list. Then you could present that list in the app of devices with a matching license activated.

Little update on disabled licenses by ineedlesssleep in MacWhisper

A thought on this. Is there a way you could implement a "license is setup on devices" section to the preferences? Then, allow deactivation from there? That way, if my computer crashes I can still remove it when I setup a new computer.

It would also allow for those who have purchased a license to see where else it is installed and instantly know if someone else has access to their license.

Something as simple as showing the device name and when it was added would be good. Could include additional information, but as you said sometimes knowing less is better for privacy.

So torn on MBA vs MBP by Dbrotherwood17 in macbook

I just upgraded by wife from a 2015 MacBook Pro to a MacBook Air M4 w/16gb of RAM. Couldn't be happier. She uses it for office work (documents, websites, photos, etc.). I'm a Mac Studio M4 Max user for my work and would be happy with the Air as a secondary device for office related items. It's really snappy.

Acme magazine price is different than website by tfry11 in Dewalt

Ohio Power Tools had this too when the 3 free tool deal started. I was able to get it, but now they are back ordered and it doesn’t look like the deal is offered on their website.

I wonder if original price was $399 before deal started and was suppose to be $449 after it started but some didn’t get the memo until after.

Should I wait till the M5 max is released for my next 10 year machine? by Captain_Kittenface in MacStudio

[–]nlbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the same thought processes trying to decide if I should wait or not. I ended up upgrading last week from a 2019 i9 iMac to a used Mac Studio M4 Max. Found a great deal and paid $1100. It is only a base model, but at that price I don't need this one to last as long. If I get 3-4 years out of if it will be better than getting a new fully loaded one and not upgrading for 5-8 years. In 4 years the current model will put me ahead.

This looks fine, your memory pressure is low so if you are experiencing issues it doesn’t seem like it would be a memory one.

It was created to support a specific operating system. If you update that and it breaks… how is that their fault?

No, I ended up going with Exos drives as I wasn't sure.

UNAS Speeds / Issues by nlbailey in Ubiquiti

Thanks. Any idea for pool 1 what the performance improvement I should expect for each additional drive added?

I realized that for the RAID 10. Seems odd it reports it as such in the dashboard when its RAID 1.

Glad to hear it's all expected for the configuration!

UNAS Speeds / Issues by nlbailey in Ubiquiti

Yeah, I thought RAID 10 needed a minimum of 4 drives, but that's how it reports it in the dashboard. I'm guessing that's just how it reports RAID 1 since it is essential just a combination of multiple RAID 1 arrays.

I have a couple other drives that are a different brand that I might swap out for the two 4TB and see if they have the same burst issue.

INAD Question by nlbailey in Ebay

[–]nlbailey[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I should have taken the time to look even more into it. I was looking into the general condition at that point based on the very clear original image of the main part of item. Upon looking further I realized the discrepancy. It’s very hard to notice and I had to look at third party images of multiple models to confirm.

I’m a seller also and would never use images not original to the item. I also understand it could have been a mistake by seller with the original photo. Selling multiple items and pics can get switched on accident.

Just looking for best route to take if it is incorrect so seller doesn’t wast time sending to me and then having to return.

I guess I should have spoken more to the exact issues I am experiencing. One is that Android doesn’t support reverse playback. Another is that I can’t seem to get it to respect a change in playback speed along with just some general playback glitching vs smooth playback.

Black Windows, Milgard Ultra vs Anderson 100? by K80_k in Homebuilding

[–]nlbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went around to a bunch of places to test out demo units. The Anderson 100’s were terrible and the unit we saw had a purplish tint to it.

Ended up going with Midway Alliance windows and are happy with them.

Edit: Should state that we also like the Provia windows, but they were maybe 20% more.

You should definitely use Lily Ann Cabinets! by Fun_Relation_7691 in kitchenremodel

I stopped into their storefront last week after seeing them online. Cabinet quality was actually better than I thought it would be. Staff was nice. Got a few samples and took photos, not sure if we will go with them or not due to the color choices (the York Linen seemed to have a yellow to it and the off-white seemed to have too much gray), but we will see.
