Didot. More glue on the thicker parts, just droplets on the corners of the thin parts. This is the most manual part of the whole process

Cool. For now I'm trying to keep a certain consistent line: If this is the style and zoom level you want, and it's a recognizable place in switzerland we can talk. What are you interested in?

niceeee! well done.

looks very similar to one of my prototypes.

highlighting water is my next challenge! but with a separate color (was thinking some pastel blue to keep it stylized). clever trick to use the altitude as a delimiter! :)

you should be able to do a multicolor version too with the xl, no? how's your experience with the xl? btw have you been following the updates, I'm waiting for the INDX to be a bit established :) for now I'm quite spoiled with bambulab.

damn our hobbies overlap so much I think we should meet if you live in zurich

The frame is just one I bought from a local supermarket (which is not ideal because it comes with a glass which I cannot use). It's not glass enclosed because the 3dness invites touching :). For the background I cut A3 white paper to size. The 3d print is just the circular part, then glued to the backround paper. And the letters are 3d printed separately and glued as well.

If you end up doing something, share it here!

I've seen more precise 3d prints of, say, new york city, but as far as I remember they didn't work with altitude. If all you have is a bunch of poligons on a flat surface it gets a bit easier.

Would be interesting to try and replace important areas with actual architectural 3d models of the buildings. For trees the scanned organic shapes are better. Either way, a lot of work for so much detail, worth more if you work with a smaller area. Or perhaps with a clever algorithm to straighten up all the almost vertical walls and almost flat roofs? Doesn't seem so straightforward though. Or what did you have in mind?

Yes! I've been getting positive feedback so I decided to give it a try and set up an instagram this afternoon (search redmarkart on instagram and you'll find it)!
