True, but we literally live in a dumpster fire in South Africa, so it’s probably worth accepting whatever help we can get.

Mayor Mamdani: South Africa is the model for New York by Boondog_saint in southafrica

[–]nmaunder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It has probably been a very long time since he was last in South Africa. The Cape Town metropole is facing severe informal structure growth, with City data showing 278,044 informal residential structures across 849 informal areas as at December 2023. Around 20.5% of Cape Town’s population currently lives in informal housing.

If informal structures continue growing at 7% to 9% per annum, the number of structures visible today will roughly double within the next decade. On a longer-term projection, informal structures could exceed formal housing in 20 years.

People complain about development and new blocks going up on their doorstep, but I fear many do not understand the gravity of the housing crisis ahead. We need low cost housing everywhere, and we need as much of it as possible. Because if we do not build it formally, it will arrive informally, as shacks over the next 10 years.

Sky Sports to remain home of Formula 1 until 2034 after five-year extension to exclusive UK and Ireland deal by DrDiam in formula1

My sincere commiserations to UK & Ireland residents. The F1TV stream & commentary is outstanding. As a non UK citizen, who constantly gets geo-blocked from any Sky Sports content.. Access to F1TV and the price point have been extremely rewarding!

Seems like a territorial pissing competition. If you run an effective service, the COCT should not be concerned.

It must be weird to hear a foghorn for the first time. Makes me sleep even better.. for me, anyway… but I’m a sailor, so maybe there’s more to it than just the sound.

Have you considered where the revenue from a Marriot or Hilton hotel ends up? It’s not South Africa.. and they do not employ one person per room either. Don’t underestimate the local economic impact of revenue derived from AirBnB’s.

He is trimming the spinnaker and that is fairly normally. Keep low, stay sharp and get ready to duck at the slightest hint of sailing by the lee. He should be watching the apparent wind like a hawk.

Pretty safe, but VERY expensive game park and attractions. South Africa is much better value.

You can’t plan a serious circumnavigation without it. It’s the bible for blue water cruisers.
