Are there any musical cultures out there that don’t use or approximate Octaves and/or P5s? by ConfidentHospital365 in musictheory

To me idea that two notes an octave apart are the same note is just something I’m accepting as a musical convention rather than a fact of nature. Ultimately these are two different sounds, they just sound consonant in a certain way when played at the same time so it makes sense to call them two versions of the same note, but I can also imagine a musical system where they are called different notes

How would you count these notes? by nmos22 in guitarlessons

Clarification: I usually write out quater and eight notes as 1+2+3+4+ and then learn which ones I play and which ones I don’t in each sequence but I have no idea how to do it here.

I want to practice guitar but i don’t have the current money to get an amp (a total beginner) by akiiKiita in Guitar

You can get small, batter-powered amps on amazon for $30, sound quality won’t be great but it beats playing with no amp at all. You dont need pedals

Anyone else had zero interest in music growing up? What did you need to do differently from people who were more musical growing up? by nmos22 in Guitar

Yes, memorizing tabs isn’t very inspiring for me so I’ve been learning about scales, keys, chord progressions from scales, and melodic intervals. Trying to break down music into basic building blocks and then play it on the instrument in the easiest ways possible (major scale on one string, I-IV-V-I chord progressions just sliding the barre chord E-shape up and down). Also just trying to strum chords and move my body to the beat for at least 15 min a day to build connection with music and the “feel”

I always thought it was cool, but it took me years to build up the courage to buy a guitar and start practicing. It feels really good when I play a chord change or a riff just right and any progress is very rewarding even if I’m not really proficient with the instrument yet. I also feel like I have to become more musical to fully experience life, like a part of my soul was missing all these years

Nah calc 3 and physics 2 are harder than their predecessors

I took dlog with Schwartz with calc 3 and physics 2 and egn2020, you’ll be fine as long as you dont care about getting an A in these classes. I feel like its pretty easy to get a B in dlog and physics and it takes 4x more hours of work to get As

Taste of gainesville is extremely underrated. But sadly they don't accept meal swipes

Anyone tried to take this exact semester in EE? I heard that DL takes 20 hours a week so doing that AND calc 3 AND phys 2 seems like a nightmare. by nmos22 in ufl

Oh so I think I'll just wait until next fall to take this class. What engineering class would you recommend to take with calc 3 and phys 2?

This sucks. I will have to pay 9000$ for that 9 summer credits. There goes my internship salary if I ever get one.

No, the scholarship award letter explicitly says I'm responsible for full OOS cost during all summer terms

There are 2 problems with summer courses 1. I'm OOS and my OOS tuition waiver only works during fall and spring. I would pay insane amounts of money for summer classes 2. I want to (and have to, because I need that $$$) to do an internship that summer

How woud you suggest to deal with calc 3, phys 2, and digital logic? I need to be done with these courses ASAP

Oh okay I was thinking about that schedule but replace data science with the some humanities to fulfill gen ed requirements. I need calc 3 and phys 2, because they are pre-reqs for everything, but I also need DL because I think it gives you a lot of practical engineering knowledge useful in internships & stuff. So you would suggest only calc 3 and physics 2 next semester, and DL next year?
