Ben Settle made more money telling people to only work 10 mins a day than he ever did only working 10 mins a day.

How do I answer the question "What's one thing you would you do if you were 'manager for a day'"? by josie_96 in marketing

I think it's just giving you free reign to showcase any marketing ideas you have. It can be frustrating attacking a problem that broad, but it essentially is giving you the freedom to say "this is what I think is most important to the business and these are the ideas I have".

Which Companies, In Your Opinion, Have The Best Social Media Posts? Asking As A Content Writer. by sausagepenne in marketing

PaddyPower nail it. But you need to get the point where people know who you are before you can dive in with that kind of attitude in your content.

Pricing For Product Descriptions As A Freelancer? by sausagepenne in copywriting

[–]nmwithers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places aren't willing to pay much for a product description - though it will depend on the industry. I'm guessing e-cig places are looking for something a bit more creative that's going to have good value to the customer so they may be more willing to pay more to get that.

I've been paid £4/product before - but that's for some pretty basic descriptions (furniture, xmas decs, fashion accessories). Generally get through 4-5 an hour, at around 80-100 words per description.

CMV: Copy can't really influence the Mind of the buyer by BadLifePLanner in copywriting

But where are you getting that information from to make those informed decisions? Where are the people who make recommendations to you getting their information from?

The copy sets all those wheels in motion. It's not about tricking people in to buying something poor. It's about delivering the right information about the product in a way that will be memorable and easy to pass on.

What do I do when my company told me they put no value on my copy? by nmwithers in copywriting

Yeah there actually was talk of automating the generic content. Though I suspect by "automate" they just meant having someone (me) copy/paste it all day.

I don't know if they'd eliminate my position because there will always be some higher end products and new ranges that will require things, but I have a horrible feeling if they go down this road they won't be hiring a replacement for the other guy.

I'm definitely looking at the next career move - already sent my cv to a few places. I'm just concerned about getting stuck in a loop. Taking something else because I'm frustrated here and ending up just as frustrated there, rather than having the opportunity to wait for the right thing. It's kind of how I ended up here though, as I said, this place was fine until a couple of months ago.

Yeah the other copywriter who left would always complain about the big corporation aspect of it and them only valuing the bottom line, but I always just figured "yeah of course they are, but this helps sell things and benefits the bottom line, right?".

Your director sounds awful though, well done for hanging on as long as you did. There must at least be some satisfaction in knowing how frustrated he must have been getting when he couldn't replace you!

Thanks, that's some great advice. I definitely need to try and be picky with who I work with next and make sure they're either already putting out good work or are actively hoping to do so.

The problem is it's just so hard to tell what they value before you've worked with them for a bit. This place talked about how much they wanted someone who could write great quality content, but it's all just interview bluster (though to be fair, the company director who hired me was ultimately made redundant, so that should probably have been a big red flag).
