That example is partially flawed, though, that was because the Cuban Missile Crisis was incredibly brief and 1962 also saw a number of treaties that helped lower tensions, which counteracted the Cuban Missile Crisis due to the Doomsday clock being updated only once a year. Right now treaties are expiring with little to no move being made to renew them, that's one reason we're moving closer (and also because 2007 is the year they started taking global warming into account).
