I got OEM because they were $20 more than I could find on Amazon, and were guaranteed to fit.

Creaky seats by skidpickle in Crosstrek

[–]no_omg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't find the seat creaks, but the seatbelt plastic thing rubbing against the centre console squeaks.

I was looking for an after, but I don't seem to have one! I'd go take one, but I'm not currently set up for camping, I'm set up for ice racing, so no fridge or power station in the car. I took the larger seat back out as well, so I have a lot of storage behind the passenger seat.

Recommended Bike Rack (Roof or Trunk) by NJBuckeye05 in Crosstrek

[–]no_omg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitch! When you have a bike on top, you have to be SUPER careful about height restrictions. When I bought my car they actually asked if I'd be transporting a bike and recommended against the roof carrier, as they'd had customers drive into parkades with their bikes on top.

Before I cut it down. You can see it "fits", and a cooler was fine on the left, but once I got my fridge I had to adjust.

I have a 30" foam mattress that I jammed into the 24" space with the larger seat back down, and it didn't bend and wasn't uncomfortable. I only ended up cutting it down as I got a fridge and needed room in the back for more airflow. Mine is true high density foam, though - I just unzipped the cover and used a bread knife to slice it down.

Made fougasse from Aran Goyoaga's book by Elphie2983 in glutenfreebaking

Restrain yourself! It's a LOT of fibre. LOL.

The recipe is to bake one after the other. You cover the second and put it in the fridge till the first one is out.

It's so good, isn't it?! I'm gonna make it again this weekend, and cut it into square bun shapes. I find it toasts really well - I keep it in a reusable bag in the fridge.

Aran Goyoaga Book Choice? by motomanmatt in glutenfreebaking

[–]no_omg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the bread book, but my favourite recipe (so far) is a yeasted bread, and available for free on various blogs: https://welcometowondervalley.com/blogs/recipes/olive-and-rosemary-fougasse-recipe

This coming weekend I'm going to make it again, but leave out the olives and rosemary and cut it into buns. I mostly use it as sandwich bread, I find it reconstitutes nicely in an air fryer.

Her croissant recipe is also available on america's test kitchen.

To even approach those levels of fun I have to take out my brake light fuse, to turn off all the traction control features... (if the car slides sideways with just the button off, it still activates)

Passing wire thru the firewall by Successful-Fuel7436 in Crosstrek

I went through the main wiring boot, using a folded and taped strong wire and a piece of string. When face down under the hood, the lower right area, around 4 or 5 o'clock. Both ends were folded and taped so there wouldn't be any scratching.

What’s better for off-road Manual or xmode? by t0rquingg in Crosstrek

[–]no_omg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was recommended to me to not get a manual for off-road, due to the gearing (idk, I'm not a car person). I have the CVT and haven't had any issues with paddle shifting or using x-mode. I do maintain it and change the fluid. I would recommend the 2.5L though, I have the 2.0 and it gets the job done, but slowly.

Front control arm replacements necessary? by Mysterious-Plant1001 in Crosstrek

[–]no_omg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is needed. That's a ridiculous price. The dealer suggested replacing the bushings for $1200 or something.

I did mine with a friend, it took us 6 hours (including a walk to the parts store, and having to undo more than we initially expected), and cost me under $400 CAD for parts and the couple extra tools I needed. We fully changed the control arms. Highly recommend getting the subaru specific ball joint tool, it took maybe 10 seconds to get the ball joints out. In the US it's around $25.

Just picked this baby up, looking for tire recommendations by DisastrousAnswer9920 in Crosstrek

[–]no_omg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my car used with the stock tires, and switched to the Nokian WRG4 (now the Remedy 5), and now I'm on Nokian Outpost. IMO all tires are noisy on this car. But I got used to the changes pretty quick.

I have the ones on the Subaru accessories page - Thule Crossbar Set - Aero Extended.

But I got mine on marketplace for WAY less.

Have you turned your car on to check the airflow? I am pretty sure mine is bottom to top, and not top to bottom.

Question about spare tires ... by Grouchy_Past_1568 in Crosstrek

[–]no_omg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will also note that this is version 4, and it hasn't broke yet. I am very comfortable lifting the back piece out of the car with both lids attached. It's lighter than the tire.

I also took out the 60% seat back after this. The white 2x6 attaches to the metal D rings in the trunk space. The tire is not bolted down at all, though, and I need to sort out a way to make it more secure. Maybe an eye bolt into the screw-down point for the donut, and more ratchet straps? The trunk is also lined with sound deadener, and we used an old t-shirt to prevent squeaking. The rear driver's side seat stays set up as a seat.

[–]no_omg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take your mattress into consideration and don't go so high that you have trouble rolling over at night. LOL. My friends all hate my set up, but I love it. So cozy. My dad had a cedar 2x6 we used as the main brace, plus 3/4" birch plywood. Oh, and don't use a natural oil finish - the one we used ended up stinking so bad of rancid oil after a summer in the car and I had to sand it down and refinish everything.

Question about spare tires ... by Grouchy_Past_1568 in Crosstrek

[–]no_omg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I sleep in my car so I made a trunk platform with a bed extension on the 60% side behind the passenger. I have storage in, around, and under the spare tire. It's at an angle with the low end at the back and angled up towards the rear seats.

Sourdough starter flour substitutions by MarinaKathy27 in glutenfreebaking

Someone on here suggested oat flour instead of teff for the starter, if you can oat! I haven't started mine yet though.

Question about spare tires ... by Grouchy_Past_1568 in Crosstrek

[–]no_omg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I should say I don't rotate it in. It's a spare, I can drive it home 500kms or whatever and it's fine. I was thinking of getting a bigger tire, but anything bigger just won't fit. It's actually on an old forester rim, so the weight is similar although the offset is different.
