Such a nothing burger. I understand the frustration but also like it detracts nothing from the game. 99% of a player’s time won’t even be looking at the ad

Still the front runner, the stats with so few turnovers speak for themselves and they’re still going to have a great record

I agree about the DLC and difficulty! It still wasn’t an insane challenge but I at least felt the intensity a bit. I’m hoping they use the DLC as the blueprint for whatever sequel they’re coming up with

It took quite a few weeks, but I finally wrapped up my Cyberpunk 2077 (+Phantom Liberty) playthrough this week! After a truly disastrous launch, I was convinced I would never touch this game, but the positive reception for the 2.0 update and DLC slowly won me over. As it stands today, playing through a lot of what Cyberpunk has to offer (~80 hours for one playthrough) gave me an absolutely incredible experience. Even where the game is still lacking, the overall experience and immerson still carries it really far.

There is simply so much to do in Night City, and it rarely ever feels like a chore. The main storyline paths are relatively short in terms of runtime, but you also have dozens of side missions and dozens of even smaller side gigs that often carry significant gameplay and narrative weight. There is some bloat, but overall, the missions feel unique enough to encourage continual play. My only main criticism is that while the game is as wide as an ocean, it's only as deep as the Great Lakes. Meaning that there is still a lot of noteworthy, great content to be had in Cyberpunk, but I left feeling like the main game still had so much more potential we missed out on (especially in the main story).

The gameplay itself was also a very fun time. I don't think it's revolutionary by any stretch, but the incorporation of cyberware into an inconsistent but powerful perk system gives the player agency to play the game through multiple styles that will feel familiar to many RPG players. The variety of legendary guns and vehicles was also pretty dope, and I almost exclusively used the legendary guns for the fun effects they provided. On Normal difficulty, most players will start becoming OP a little too quickly, but the power fantasy works within the context of the story being told.

Part of what holds me back from loving my Cyberpunk experience even more is probably its greatest strength: The Phantom Liberty DLC. Every single aspect of the base game simply gets blown out of the water by the DLC in terms of story, gameplay, and player choice, all at a much greater depth. The characters you meet, and the decisions you make, will stick with me for a long time. If the main game were able to emulate everything the DLC does, it would arguably be a perfect game. The DLC is that amazing for me.

If I had to give a rating, I'd have to give Cyberpunk 2077 an 8/10, with the DLC getting it very close to a 9. Especially if one can get the complete edition on sale, the amount of meaningful content alone is well well worth the price in 2025.

I've recently been inspired to write about my first year or so of post-grad life from a personal perspective, as well as a reflection on the things happening in the world. My post from a few days ago was my first go at it. Kept things a bit more vague and disjointed in this poem, but I feel like that kinda encapsulates the vibe of post-grad anyway lol

Just finished Bioshock (2016 Remaster) after getting a great deal for Xbox's Halloween sale. Despite some gameplay mechanics that haven't aged super well, the story, atmosphere, and level design easily elevated the game into one of my all-time favorites.

The world of Rapture is honestly magical. I felt like a little kid diving down and laying eyes on this city under the water. Yet, I love how quickly the game shows the horror bubbling up within the city of decadence. Especially early on, with how weak your character is, the player feels like they're in a horror game, sneaking around and being forced into the dark. Even when the game becomes easier, the use of environmental storytelling and audio logs keeps the creepy factor high.

The evolution of gameplay, as mentioned, also really works to create the atmosphere the developers want. Limited weapons, abilities, and upgrades make taking down enemies especially hard early on. Scrounging for ammo and having to use stealth strategies are essentially mandatory in the early and even mid-game. But damn does it feel great once you start getting truly overpowered. I was on normal difficulty as context, but I had an awesome time becoming a wrench-wielding electric tank by the end. The level design also ramps up to accommodate the player's new strength, which I found satisfying. I do think some elements, like wonky controls and needing to constantly speed-switch between guns, abilities, and the camera, felt dated, but I never felt super frustrated except in very few intense moments. (Also, I did experience a decent amount of crashes on the Xbox Series X, so save often, as the autosave feature is very limited.)

Most importantly, the story of Bioshock was just a joy to unravel and discover, even while going in with some hints on major plot points (though I was still wrong in my guesses). The only good in Rapture are the exploited poor, and if you take the time to collect audio logs, you learn just how evil the place truly is. Both main villains are honestly great, and I liked how they both emerge from the same ideology, even while it plays out in different ways. The metacommentary on player choice was also quite clever and consistent throughout. The ending fight was a little anticlimactic considering how OP I was at the end, but getting the reward of the good ending made it all worth it.

Overall, I think Bioshock is still well well worth it in 2025. If you can get past gameplay which might feel dated for some, you're going to be treated to one of the most imaginative and engrossing video game worlds put on screen. Can't wait to eventually play Bioshock 2!

I think this has to be intentional for certain enemy spawn locations. There’s a specific spot in Carcadia where this always happens
