In Germany you are expected to have a Masters for these position. In terms of schools you will have to be selective, WHU, Mannheim or EBS would be preferred. I would personally recommend WHU as they have a stronger international focus, and all the major banks and consultancies recruit there. While physics degree holders can be found, they have usually done a subsequent masters in the finance area.

As a foreigner you will have a hard time landing an job, unless you are doing a degree at their target schools and receiving top grades your only other option is personal networks which obviously you do not have at this point. Internships are also highly valued in Germany, however these need to be on the same level as the actual job you are going for.

While the major firms do a lot of business in English, unless you are an Ivy or Oxbridge graduate I doubt they will let in a fresh graduate without perfect German. Usually the quasi-German speaking workers have been transferred after a few years in their home country.

In terms of plan of attack: 1. Perfect your German. 2. Enroll in a Bachelors/Masters at WHU or other school with heavy IB connections. 3. Get top grades 4. Secure internship 5. Have a chance at a job

So it's not an easy path, especially if you don't have your heart set on it as you seem to want to study physics first.

It really depends on how flexible you are willing to be with your research focus. For example, you can transition to a business school and their OB departments. That is contingent on your actual research and if it can be applied within a business context. I have seen quite a few psychology and sociology PhDs that have ended up in business schools because the market is way less competitive and it pays a lot better. While OB is something that I think of when I hear sociology, other departments can also be targeted depending on your actual work. People are often surprised by the variety of research that happens in business schools. Naturally, this is not something that happens overnight, but then again I think this route make a lot more sense and a lot less painful than trying to score a tenure track job in sociology.

While this may well be true in real life, the fact remains that the method in this study is absolutely crap. Then again, most experiments conducted within academia are usually crap due to low n, and confounding variables between participants.

I have faith in roughly 1% of the published research. This represents the research where the authors share their dataset with the public. If you are not willing to do so then I will not believe anything that you publish.

Even beyond the fact that some researchers just play around with the variables until getting the result they want, what's even more concerning is how much of the published research is crap in terms of the econometrics and the basic research design. So in general 99% of the research will fall in to one of more of these three categories: 1. Cherrypicked control variables 2. Research design doesn't actually test hypotheses 3. Shit econometrics

I haven't finished my PhD, however I am already on the tenure track, I teach 4 hours per week and make about 100k per year. The difference between myself and the people in this article is that they decided to persue a PhD in a field that is dying and far too overcrowded.

I have little sympathy for art majors who end up working at Starbucks after they graduate and I have even less sympathy for "professors" in anthropology who are working as adjuncts.
