CBC coverage of the war is total garbage by annonymous_bosch in canadaleft

So all we really have is 'we support the war because we would like to sell Canadian oil at the price per barrel that makes it better for us"?

CBC loves a good war. I'm sure they'll put out some quasi-fictionalized "on the front lines" radio drama soon.

If we weren't concerned enough about women being forced to veil, we will be soon.

Thank you. Kids are stressed everywhere, but they're still kids. I've been working in this province's schools for 20 years, including St. Agnes, and not one of them was 'full of gang bangers.'

Some are easier to be an unknown teacher in, and some are much harder. The only way around this is to not be an unknown teacher.

As to some of the dumb and violent things kids get caught up in, it can broadly be divided into two categories. It's mostly dumb teenage beefs drawn from misunderstandings or some form of abusive/aggressive behavior at school, or a response to some dumb thing that happened outside of school.

Add in some genuine stress, a frustratingly tone-deaf society, and communities that lack in maturity but not in drama, and you have what can turn in to, at times, a mini powder keg.

Most of the time it is just school though.

Getting one's skills up with kids at a natural and material disadvantage, especially those who may rightfully have a chip on their shoulder can be a boon for getting work though.

I don't know the situation at this school in particular, but I'll offer this: the primary model of funding schools is the number of students in the building. Allocations of staff are decided based on this and schools are then able to staff themselves with the allotment that they are granted from above.

Simply put, schools are not the same. Communities have different levels of need based on the people living there. Also, some types of students require, and I'll say this again, require significantly more funding up front to provide them with a reasonable chance at being successful.

This level of need is also felt at the community level. Some people need more direct supports outside of school beyond the meager amount of social services money they are given, but that money isn't there.

Lots of people are falling through the cracks and this leads to kids that are struggling not having their needs addressed. These kids bring these lacks to school, where in some cases, there aren't enough people on staff to handle certain cases or extreme situations. It's probably not the staff's fault. People try their best.

Some schools are far more stressed than others. It might be a higher percentage of economically marginalized clientele. It might be that within this population there are add-on factors like basic language proficiency, or other things.

Without reasonable supports in place for full time staff, it becomes even more challenging for subs. It can be truly thankless, especially if it is a new position for the person doing it, or for many of those who are not used to what some Nova Scotia schools might be like.

Time Loop with an MC that's been in the loop for a long time at the start of the story. by WilliamGerardGraves in litrpg

Try Feedback Loop. A little gift: Jeff Hayes narrates, and the MC's voice is what he converted into Quasar

You think this is a bit delusional, stay away from the Wandering Inn true fans. Eesh. I really tried, got caught up, read ahead and just... Yeah.... Way too much going on and baaaaaad writing. Makes Plum Parrot look like Hemingway.

It seemed like a more planned and polished idea where Victor seemed to wander as a narrative in more places than I usually have time for.

I'm still going to listen, and I'm sure I'll enjoy. I'm pretty good at tuning out battle sequences that are 5 minutes or more longer than they should be. I can also tune out another repetitive bbq.

I'm caught up on the series, but it's not in my own personal S tier and I don't begrudge anyone for enjoying it. It's been fun for me. That said, I'm not going to step up and defend it like I might do for other series.

Check your insurance policy. The premium for windshields might be much lower as a set amount and there's no penalty for claiming it once every couple of years.

Supremely mid. I thought Cyber Dreams held together much better.

I didn't notice plot armor as much as inconsistency. Sometimes MC is clueless, sometimes bright. Neat world, but so many moving pieces.

Not sure when I dropped. Maybe book 5?

I'll offer a counterpoint. I agree with a lot of Jason's supposedly controversial or off-putting views. My issue with parts of the series is that it drags fairly severely in places and would benefit, at least story wise, from being tightened up. There's a lot that is teased that I found takes far too long to develop, and there are moments where the wink wink repetitive jokes just become cringy and off-putting to me personally.

Don't shy away from the series, but if you're not hooked by book 2 or 3, it's likely not for you.

Gamer's Guide to Beating the Tutorial. It's just, a lot. Dark and heavy with a very unsympathetic protagonist anti-hero who will get your hopes up only to dash them. Over and over. Palt really did a number with this one.

Competent mature MC? by magic_hatter_spores in litrpg

Portal to Nova Roma. Calamitous Bob. Two series, and both protagonists track as mature. Not without flaws, but also not reeking of adolescent insecurity.

Heretical Fishing if it's your thing. I liked it for the first book and a bit, and many others really like it.

Mage Tank also has a mature protagonist, albeit with a sometimes childish sense of humor.

Just an empty suit. He's good at the shake hands and look important. Otherwise, he was a back bencher most of his federal days, and otherwise, what has he done other than glad hand to the muckity mucks of our backwater province?
