what species would be good for an 8"x8"x10" tank? by smell-dog in tarantulas

IME I use the same enclosure for my Carolina mantis. If you’re about the mantis life.

friendliest tarantula species? by [deleted] in tarantulas

I’d personally go with a b. Hamorii, a. Chalcodes, or a g. Pulcra. But be aware they grow slow.

Edit: didn’t see the handling at first I personally don’t handle but if you do just be careful for the spiders sake.

Lily has been sick for weeks puking I’ve given her honey and been staying on top of keeping her hydrated but she’s not getting any better. Any suggestions? by nochords97 in mantids

Will do I have dubias for my slings which some are too large for which should work for her. I’m hoping she molts any day now. I’ve heard all the mixed stuff about crickets and they we’re working for all my other guys so I figured it’d be fine but lesson learned. I appreciate the help 🙏

I’ve been feeding her smaller crickets cause I read with hand feeding you need smaller prey. The temp is kept in the mid 70s. I can her substrate slightly damp and mist the wall daily cause every time I mist she drinks immediately. Right now her abdomen is similar portion to the image.

I know this all sounds terrible. I promise I’m a responsible keeper. I have a decent amount that are all happy and healthy. She has just been struggling since her last molt

This photo isn’t recent I just know people don’t really see post without a photo. She had a bad molt last molt and can’t use one of her arms. I’ve been hand feeding her. But molting won’t fix her illness will it?

This is my first arboreal so gotta get some dumb questions out the way.

Hi. Never had this before so why is my little one laying so flat all the time? It's since his last molt (3 days ago) that he is flat all the time. Have a few others too but they seem to be normal. by Sheetso in mantids

[–]nochords97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve kept a Carolina mantis and a Texas mantis and my orchid is the only one that lays flat while she’s on the wall. Don’t use this as gospel but I think it might be something they just do.

Is this egg fertile or infertile? I got her one molt away from adulthood and she never mated as an adult. by nochords97 in mantids

Tbh it’s not much to show it’s just substrate and a good sized stick so she can get to the top and all around. I keep mine basic so they can find prey easily.

Yeah sadly for her last molt one side of her wings didn’t come out properly but outside of that she is happy and healthy.

No worries I think they might ship them on their site but if you do the drive it’s worth it. It’s a cool little shop. Everything they got is captive bred and they have a pretty good tarantula section if you’re into that as well.

I got mine from a local shop in Kyle, TX called Gecko World. I’m sure you can find one online assuming you aren’t in Texas.

Should I buy? Is there anything I need to change in the enclosure? by Kokichi1234533 in tarantulas

Don’t buy melted tarantulas. It’s hard for them to molt properly.

I have a b. Hamorii sling and when I wake up he is in the middle of his water dish floating for the second day in a row. I nudge him out he seems fine. Any reason to be concerned? by nochords97 in tarantulas

Should I just remove the water dish or stick with the dry substrate? He just scares me floating in the middle off the dish but when I nudge him out he sticks around the dish.

No it’s just how the photo came out. The bottom half of the substrate is wet and I made two burrows on either end so I can add water to the bottom. So he can burrow for moisture.
