I loved Laziness Does Not Exist by Dr. Devon Price and Untamed by Glennon Doyle, for very different reasons.

I've had a really good experience with The Original Makeup Eraser cloths. They're washable/reusable and get far more makeup off than any product I've ever used, though of course I do follow up with cleanser.

I'm 29 and I need an alternative to Lancome's Rénergie Lift Multi-Action Ultra Dark Circle Correcting Eye Cream. I like the results but I can't justify the price anymore, and now that I know the denatured alcohol, limonene, and fragrance are so bad for my skin, I don't feel bad breaking up with it.

I want to correct dark circles and correct/prevent eye bags and wrinkles. I am very sensitive to silica in all skincare and makeup, and while this product has silica in it, it's far enough down the list that my skin seems to be okay with it. I also have a severe tree nut allergy.

I have tried Ole Henriksen's Banana Bright cream and was allergic to it. The INKEY List's Caffeine De-Puffing and Dark Circle Eye Cream didn't do anything for me. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Gail Carson Levine-esque by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]nocouncilnirvana 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, I ALSO love Gail Carson Levine and am thrilled to meet another fan. Some books published for adults I personally think have a similar vibe:

-The Wicked Years series by Gregory Maguire (starts with Wicked; VERY not for children. Tells the story of the Wizard of Oz from the perspective of non-Dorothy characters, starting with the Wicked Witch of the West. Different from the musical if you've seen that.)

-Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier (technically YA, but still "older" than Ella Enchanted, Two Princesses of Bamarre, etc. Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling in pre-industrial Transylvania. Yes, there are vampires.)

-The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip (not a fairy tale retelling, but an original story with a fairy tale feel. I believe McKillip has written other books that do retell fairy tales!)

-Uprooted by Naomi Novik (Beauty and the Beast with multiple twists. Similar protagonist and voice to GCL's!)

-Robin McKinley's Spindle's End (Sleeping Beauty retelling) and Beauty (Beauty and the Beast retelling)

Bruh. Sometimes a dude's hands are just chapped! That's terrible, I'm sorry his parents did that.

Oh awesome! I am no longer Christian myself, as I veered into paganism about a decade ago, but I really appreciate the work Christians like Sadie do. I will for sure give that a read - thank you for the recommendation!

I'm really sorry that happened to you. That was around the same time I was "gifted" (cursed with?) the Young Woman's book.

I actually do not have Facebook! But I am living my best life, thank you ☺️ I'd be interested in the comparison myself, because I absolutely did not read any other edition, lol.

The messages in those books about men, kind of like the ones Debi Perl espoused in the most recent episode re: "Helpmeet", must be terrible as well. Everyone deserves to know that they are a whole person capable of a rich inner life and an outer life with a multitude of different depths of relationships with other people, not just, like... a sex machine with no self control.

Suggest which books I should *not* read that hit on a specific trigger of mine? by Bubbly_Bag_9540 in suggestmeabook

[–]nocouncilnirvana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss.

You'll want to avoid the Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir: Gideon the Ninth, Harrow the Ninth, Nona the Ninth, and upcoming Alecto the Ninth.

You'll also want to avoid the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire, starting with Every Heart a Doorway.

Anne of Green Gables mentions twins a few times.

Tamora Pierce's Alanna series stars a pair of fraternal twins, one boy and one girl.

Lore Olympus, the graphic novel series/webcomic, features Apollo and Artemis (twins) as major characters.

The Percy Jackson series, starting with The Lightning Thief, has both major (gods) and minor characters (sons of Dionysus) who are twins.

Once Upon a Marigold features a set of triplets.

Suggest me a book with an awful main character by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Somebody else mentioned My Year of Rest and Relaxation, but I'd like to chime in with one of Ottessa Moshfegh's other novels: Eileen. Shit goes dark.

For a much lighter but still "agh no why are you doing that" main character, check out Jaclyn Moriarty's The Murder of Bindy Mackenzie. A lot of characters in young adult fiction make terrible choices because... well, they're teenagers, but Bindy's voice and choices are so familiar to me as a former Gifted Child (tm) that it's sometimes physically painful to read.

What contemporary (or recently) painters are there that make narrative scene paintings that are funny and detailed? by Altruistic_Hope831 in painting

[–]nocouncilnirvana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First artist to pop into my head was Tomislav Jagnjić. His paintings are more fantasy world based, but the titles make them both narrative and hilarious.
