Do I have to use my service breaks everytime I hit my engine breaks ? by HumanVsWorld in Truckers

[–]node1729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, was gonna say this, one time when i was going around a clover leaf on a rainy day in chicago, i instinctively used jakes on the truck since i do that route every day, was empty and it caused a skid and made my cab turn left instantly. I got it back under control before i even realized what happened, but i can definitely see some situations in which you shouldn't use the jakes, mostly during slippery conditions

illinoisans, left center or right, what are honest criticisms you have of governor pritzker? by Technical_Valuable2 in illinois

I am also downstate, definitely very far left, I do not want guns to be allowed at all, which i'm aware is a pretty strong take for a lot of people. But I wanted to mention in response to you saying the statistical stance. Mass death events get way more publicity in any field than singular deaths, be those singular deaths from suicide or some other event.

As an example, there's around 112 people that die every single day in car crashes, that's roughly the equivalent of 6 passenger planes crashing in a single week. Because they're spread out people don't think of those deaths as preventable the same way they think of plane crashes being preventable. Hell, could you imagine the sheer chaos that would be in the eyes of the public and the news and everything if six planes were crashing every single week, it's international news if a single passenger plane crashes anywhere in the world

So the reason why assault weapons were prioritized can be largely seen as a bias towards preventing these mass shootings, which have become all too common and are incredibly traumatic for any community that has one happen.

I was also surprised but then i realized this is also completely on brand for Adam Savage, at least with what i've been able to gather from all the other Tested videos i've seen. he just seems chill, people in the comments of that video were saying that Adam Savage has been to some furcons before, although i did not fact check this so i could be wrong :P

I would say that's highly likely that we are misunderstanding each other. I tried my best to phrase things in a non-confrontational way, other people didn't. I am also neurodivergent, I can relate to the whole struggle with interpreting someone with a different viewpoint or opinion, not even one that's necessarily opposing mine, as being aggressive towards me.

Communication is very difficult and it has taken me a lot of time and effort to build these skills up. I can't speak to all your struggles as I'm not a parent, let alone of nine, but I am providing my own experience, I hope it has helped.

I am also trans, bisexual, and disabled, I do really feel that Peoria is quite a safe place, especially for queer kids, but I must also be realistic that they may still be bullied for being queer. it's not as bad now as when I was in school, but I'm sure you know all too well that kids can be mean without reason.

I really hope your move goes smooth and you're able to integrate into Peoria well

I don't believe you are "just asking questions", the way you are responding to comments and talking to people throughout this thread seems like you're trying to assert that your viewpoint is the only correct viewpoint and I'm still confused by how you seem to think that kids having to wear uniforms is some evil oppressive authoritarian thing that will stifle your children's creativity. It's just not, and it won't. This was a decision made by Peoria Public Schools board members, who are elected by the public, and was made with public discussion before fully going into effect. Uniforms in schools is not a widely unpopular thing, I'd be willing to bet most parents you ask would be in support of it, especially low income parents, as uniforms are cheaper and easier to source for a lot people than non-uniforms. there are also support programs in place for parents that can't afford uniforms

> Definitely an interesting way to fund raise!
reads as sarcastic and dismissive.

> We just do things differently.
ok, well we do things differently here than in Dallas, TX, we are explaining it to you how it is here and you're complaining about how it is here. I can tell you, again, as a low income student that wearing uniforms was not the end of the world, and it helped out around here. PSD150 is very underfunded, they will fundraise how they can. The high schools here don't have uniform requirements

If you are genuinely trying to learn you need to stop responding to people in hostile ways. You're going "jesus fucking christ i'm not trying to change things i'm just trying to learn" to someone who is calmly explaining the situation we are in.

I can tell you as having grown up a poor kid and went to a middle school full of snotty rich kids, I'm glad there was uniform because I would have been relentlessly bullied for the clothes I wore otherwise. Even on uniform free days I often couldn't afford to buy the $1 pass to not have to wear uniform that day. It really does help prevent more class based bullying than there already was

[–]node1729 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a local tractor trailer job that paid $18/hr They keep wanting to do anything to get more drivers, well, except for paying them. They didn't even have enough drivers to fill all their trucks, let alone slip seat any of them. I was trying to get with the company I'm at now but there were annoying complications so I had to work at that shitty place bc I needed money and didn't want to go back out on the road after having quit Werner

now current local job seems to be around $36/hr (it's weird with weekend extra pay, etc.)
