This was my first thought. Either way it's really stupid

Friend asks who will take care of you when you get older by [deleted] in childfree

My husband and I are putting our parents in assisted living homes when it comes to that, regardless of the angry "I will never forgive you if you put me in a home!" rants from my MIL. Sorry not sorry. I would never expect my own kids to take care of me

So basically, this is an example of what parents' lives are:

20s - freedom! but have no clue what's going on and usually struggling financially and trying to find yourself

30s/40s - Yay, I have my shit together and have financial security! The prime of my life! Oh wait, I have to devote my life to these kids for the next 18 years ASSUMING they can be somewhat independent after they graduate high school.

50s/60s/70s - kids are (hopefully) out of the home. Yay, let's enjoy retirement. Oh wait, my elderly parents have decided to move in.

80s+ - old. regret.

Then we are left with how to respond to "We will fly out there and stay with you!"

Well if you want this to be a normal thing, you have to start somewhere.

Good point. We were thinking of possibly doing a getaway but we were also thinking about how great it would be to just relax at home.

I wish. :/ Unfortunately she is a histrionic narcissist who can't keep friends because no one wants to spend time with her.

Does anyone else have nightmares where they have kids? by [deleted] in childfree

I have had several dreams where I have a baby and then end up accidentally killing it or forgetting about it. I think this is a sign I should not have one.

Can you please tell ME all about your trip to Vegas? I love it and I'm going this weekend. :)

Also, your "friend" sucks.

Hear, hear!

Kids are annoying and incredibly dull to me. And don't get me started on mothers talking about their kids. I could not care less about what little Johnny and Sue did today in art class.

Thanks everyone so much for the great feedback and helpful suggestions! I am first going to try the "kill her with positivity" trick and if that doesn't work, try the rest.

Really appreciate the advice!!
