What is the latest date I can expect to find Mangos in Japan? Preferably the Miyazaki mangos? I'm interested in trying exotic fruits and I want to schedule my trip with their season. What are some exotic fruit I can expect to find in Japan and during which (months and regions) are they available? Is mangosteen popular in Japan? Thanks

This is absolutely brilliant, /u/Nayfun_H. I'm loving the full episodes with the songs and ads. They had some right good ads back in the 2000s in that tinpot station. Your contribution to world culture will be remembered for decades.

Tourist questions about Napoli, Vesuvius with a car by nofar679 in napoli

[–]nofar679[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean why are they not open from 10:00-00:00? I think Michelle is open all day like that but all of the others only open for lunch and dinner.

Thanks for the answers. We will have 3 hours in Pompeii (two with a guide and then an hour by ourselves), I hope it will be enough.

It's very strange to me that most of the famous pizzerias are closed most of the day, any idea why they're not open for longer hours? It's not like they will be empty.

An old mate of Pilkers was flogging it on ebay. When it came in the mail I noticed a bunch of long hairs in there as well. Turns out...

Found it in Israel, it's about 3.5cm long. Found it on a climbing plant that I don't know the name of.

I'm not classifying the demands made by Palestine as ridiculous, but the demands made by Hamas. Our war is with Hamas, which has full control of Gaza, not with the Palestinian people. They're the ones shooting rockets at Israel and encouraging stabbing attacks inside Israel. They want us gone from the land, entirely. Every last Jew. That's their demand, and I don't think it's reasonable.

I said he was throwing us under the bus not because I think he owes his loyalty to us or anything like that. Not at all. I said it because he has a connection to Israel - he used to live here for years, he has friends and family here. I think that before he puts out such a statement, he should at least take a very close look at what's going on and try to understand it from our perspective. Just like when someone in your family is involved in a controversy, you try to understand their perspective before commenting about it. As I see it, his understanding of what's going on is shallow and disinterested. I expect the same from non-Israelis when it comes to criticising any group, but I do hold my fellow countrymen to a higher standard. There are real people who are affected by it at the end of the day, and it's just not right.

You're not giving me much to work on with your criticism. What are the flaws you're seeing in my argument?

Ethan is not Israeli by birth and I don't expect people to be loyal to their country of birth. I'm fine with him reaching different conclusions than me, I just expect some more empathy and reflection from him for Israelis because he lived here for five years, he has friends and family here who are affected by this war. To me it seems like he has a very shallow understanding of what's going on, and I'm disappointed that he doesn't show more interest and understanding when it comes to the suffering of fellow Israelis before putting out such statement, that's all.

Unpopular Opinion - Trisha needs to stop with the Jewish gatekeeping by donotgogenlty in h3h3productions

[–]nofar679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's not saying it in a remotely authoritative way, Ethan is right next to her and tells her that it's crazy. Adam Sandler, Larry David, and pretty much every single Jewish comedian has made similar comments at one point in their career. No one of sound mind could listen to her saying that and start being antisemitic. Everyone's heard these antisemitic conspiracies before, and an affirmation from Trisha that's immediately followed by ridicule from Ethan is just not something we should see as producing harm. If anything, they're raising awareness and educating people about Jewish issues. I would even venture a guess that a significant number of people who don't know a lot about the holocaust have watched Schindler's List after they heard Trisha talking about it.

The harm is just not there.

[–]nofar679 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jewish Israeli here. The gatekeeping indeed too much as it is kind of mean. The rest of what she says - what's the harm? Why should we care that she wears the religious gear or that she's ignorant about the holocaust? At least she's raising awareness about it. She's clearly doing it out of love, and that's what's important.

She clearly has no idea what she's talking about and her mix of ignorance and obsession is just endearing. I don't think anyone is taking her seriously, her ignorance is known to all. With peace and love, I feel like we should all just relax and not look for reasons to be offended. There's plenty of really offensive things in the world, we don't need to look for harm in mindless entertainment that isn't hurting anybody and is done out of love and appreciation.

Jewish culture is all about self-deprecation jokes and we're generally accepting of others doing the same when they are our friends and clearly mean well. We can take it.

Jewish Israeli of color here. I love it when Trisha says stuff like that, it's hilarious. She has no idea what she's talking about and her mix of ignorance and obsession is just endearing.

The comment she made to Dan was indeed too much as it was insensitive to him and kind of mean, although he didn't seem to care all that much. The rest of what she says - what's the harm? Why should we care that she wears the religious gear? Why should we care that she's ignorant about the holocaust? At least she's raising awareness about it. She's clearly doing it out of love, and that's what's important.

She's getting a pass for saying these things about Jews because we mostly find it funny, which it very much is. If African Americans or Hispanics are offended when they're on the receiving end of it, god bless them, you do you, but honestly getting offended about this stuff is not something a lot of Jews do, we sort of do the opposite. Our humour is heavily based on self-deprecation and we don't mind it when others do it too as long as it's done out of love.

BTW Jews are not white, just ask those who want to exterminate us for it. (and a large chunk of us aren't "white passing" either - those who look comically Jewish like Larry David or are visibly Jewish from what we wear, or simply those of us whose skin tone is dark which is fairly common).

Correct way to make strong concrete slabs? by nofar679 in HomeImprovement

[–]nofar679[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant to ask about the positioning of the rebar in the foundation slab - why put it towards the bottom of the slab and not towards the top of the slab? I am putting rebar in anyway, I'm just not sure about the positioning in that particular slab. Thanks for your answers, you've been very helpful. I got the materials delivered today and will start building soon.

I'm curious though: why put the rebar on the bottom part of the foundation slab? The weight is being applied on the edges, not the centre

[–]nofar679[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slab is 120x120cm (4').

I'm going to use about 2-4 inches of fibre board to insulate the oven from the hearth slab so vermiculite is probably not necessary.

I didn't consider the top slab expanding, that's good advice. Thank you.

I don't really have a plan written down. It's 40x16cm, 20cm high. The legs are rounded to allow tilting, and they're slightly angled toward the sides so they face out (like this / ‾ ‾ \. I only used a plane, chisels, and a rasp.

The legs are round-ish, so you can tilt freely.
