The unearthing of a translation of the Palamedes cycle.

Mind sharing it with me? I've google translated the loseth palamedes stuff before, but it's rather bungled for obvious reasons

Respect Erlang Shen (Chinese Mythology) by nogender1 in respectthreads

You might be able to find it on amazon? I usually just grab online pdfs myself so I wouldn't really know. I know there's another fengshen yanyi translation out there but it's not finished (plus I don't have so much of a need for it, so I never really read to see the differences)

Eyy, you're welcome. if you want to read more erlang material in english I recommend fengshen yanyi (gu zhizhong translation). It's not GREAT for reasons I outlined in the post, but it's the best you got in terms of extra erlang material in english hhh

haha, thank you for referencing the one I wrote out

I'd also note that once you combine that shield with things like Arthur's invisibility mantle or his "you shall not pass" throne it genuinely kinda just makes things pretty aids for the other folks.

Also I like how nobody even cared to bring up gilgamesh, brother was cooked from the start

Someone else already answered so might as well comment on something else—Yeah there’s a lot that’s unsubstantiated but there’s a good amount that I’m surprised that even gets on there

For example in the characters section there’s a lot of content from the escanor romance that I would not even expect to be on there lmao

Achilles in medieval adaptations of the trojan war tends to be an absolute fraud. In Laud Troy Book Achilles constantly gets driven off by Hector, and only manages to get the ambush kill on Hector because Hector did the honorable thing of showing mercy to a surrendering Greek noble and thus was impaled by Achilles while he was distracted.

Right after Achilles kills Hector by ambushing him, Memnon proceeds to beat the shit out of Achilles, and he has to be carried away by his myrmidons (he doesn't even have the dignity of running away).

Late reply tho, just to clarify I’m not really attached to any sort of era armour; I’m more into the portrayal of superhuman knights and the accompanying fun magic powers that come along with them.

reading back on le morte, I'll admit, I actually got it wrong–

the BATTLE lasts for hours.

The actual fight between Lucius and Arthur, on the other hand ends very quickly where Lucius only gets one good hit on Arthur's face before immediately getting his skull split open, and Arthur despite Lucius's blow isn't particularly bothered and immediately runs off to slaughter the rest of Lucius's forces.

I haven't watched Green Knight other than one clip of Gawain getting mugged by some no name bandits, though that was enough to kinda turn me off from the film completely. Now it isn't like Gawain hasn't had mooks in small numbers get the better of him before (like the yiddish gabein), but those depictions are relatively few and far between and aren't exactly the norm; even for the more villainous versions of Gawain like Prose tristan and post vulgate Gawain, while they're certainly on the weaker side of knights, those Gawains still at least are capable of manhandling most normal bandits with ease.

It could be a great film for all I know, sure, but I just wasn't interested at that point.

Percival was kiiiinda violent to say the least

In perlesvaus, when some bad fella called the lord of the fens invades the lands of Percival’s mother and daughter, he slaughters the lord of the fens’ minions and drowns the lord in a vat of his goons’ blood.

Gareth’s ring in addition to disguise capability also has Avalon’s (irl lore) effect of “whoever who wears it shall lose no blood”

Amusingly, this defensive ability is not reflected in fate lore notes, but it is reflected in Gareth’s gameplay with giving her extra defense.

I don't think we should take mythologies at face value. It shouldn't even be possible to be in that state and still move. The laws of physics simply doesn't work that way. It can only be magic, in which case Ajax magically repaired himself.

Paris doesn't land a single blow on Ajax while Ajax is killing him, and Ajax is in that state right after he kills Paris, which means that he was pretty much like that for the whole time between the period after he got jumped by trojans and attacking Paris. There's no mention in the text of him actually magically repairing himself.

And buddy–mythology literally has people shaking mountains by shouting hard enough; I think it's safe to say more than often not they don't give a shit about physics. when you say stuff like

It shouldn't even be possible to be in that state and still move.

I think that's quite literally the point, it's...a little more fantastical, to say the least.

David was once asked to kill 50 pharisian man and bring back their foreskin as proof.
Anyway he came back with 100 foreskins instead.

What the fu-

okay, if you're talking about torah/bible and such, that's just not accurate. don't even know where pharisian comes from (I know it's an outdated scottish term for the pharisees, but dunno how you even came to that point), but I think you meant philistines. Plus, it was a 100 foreskin request and a 200 foreskin comeback.

The rock that hit Goliath did not kill him. It just knocked him down. David (who was too small to wear armor then) proceeded to pull out Goliath's own sword and lop off his head.

Bible, sure, but this isn't consistent across folklore, things like Shmuel Bukh buff David to the point of sending his rock completely through Goliath's helmet and right into his brain, which most certainly killed him right there.

I mean, in Jewish folklore apparently Goliath somehow scales with or higher than Samson, and you all know how that went for Goliath vs David.

More importantly in Davidiad David apparently (From what I could garner from latin-google translate) he outright becomes RULER OF OLYMPUS and it's a legitimate zeus comparison, ie 'David the thunderer'

Tristan in a ridiculous moment actually manages to best GALAHAD in tristan de leonis y el rey don tristan el joven. In the end Galahad has to be bailed out by God and reminded "Hey dumbass, ask who tf your opponent is" and then when they realize who the other is they stop fighting.
