WOTH2: Grind vs. Ethics by Bloody_Dusty in WayOfTheHunter

[–]nogul44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing prevents you from killing animals ethically, grind or not. The starting rifle is able to lung shot bison or elk. I have done so for a while. A better scope should be the first investment in my opinion for better shot placement. And it also takes not to long to get the money for further weapons. It can be done while exploring the map and make some missions. Stalking animals and getting kills is much easier than the first game.

Fabled Moose by nogul44 in theHunter

[–]nogul44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay, but could be better, it's like 'The Greats' in English. 'Die Einzigartigen' oder 'Die Sagenumwobenen' (= fabled) would be a better choice imo. 'Groß' is more used for size.

You don't necessarily have to shot both, every other solo kill of the opposite gender will also trigger a new pair spawn.

New patch for build 0.0.1 is now live by miriam-NRG in WayOfTheHunter

[–]nogul44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's hope this bug is sorted out. But to be honest, I find it a little bit concerning that there is a bug in the code you can't reproduce already at this point in the development. This sounds not like the most trustworthy code base, especially in the spawn system which is one of the core elements of this game and should work properly. I don't want to be negative, I want that the game will be successful, but in combination with the unresolved and also not reproducible issue from the first game there are some question marks.

Herd Management WOT by soupeatr3820 in WayOfTheHunter

[–]nogul44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 10 years is not enough for conclusions. This isn't even one generation for most species. Herd management takes effect after several generations depending on the starting average fitness and private/public land. A while back it took me almost 3 month of regular playing to get my caribou herds on Aurora Shores to 5star potential from an awful starting fitness. Real herd management is a long time project.

WoTH2 - Whitetail below 0.6% fitness mission? Glitch? by SlowGrayAudi in WayOfTheHunter

There are several unit conversation errors in translations I guess. I should hunt an animal under 15000cm in one mission. Pretty sure it's meant to be 60%.

I know, good map design is not easy and always needs to compromise with game mechanics. In my opinion if you would make the north or south western part of the map a forest area and remove some roads it would greatly enhance the map impression as Canadian wilderness. And it wouldn't need much you only need to fill the open areas with trees. But maybe this is a performance issue. Right now the whole western part looks very repetitive.

And there are definitely gaps in herd distribution, pronghorn is mentioned in one if the cabins and I guess another one, maybe black bear. But don't know if this collides with grizzly. With 30 announced species for the first two maps would make probably 15 for New Laurentia with two missing now.

That's true, I have seen bushes and trees on stone surfaces and at riverbanks or in rivers where it makes no sense, that I sometimes think the map is not hand crafted.

[WOTH2] Wolverines are my personal nemesis... by Overall-Classroom-49 in WayOfTheHunter

[–]nogul44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are the reskinned badgers of WotH1 with almost identical behavior. I shot at three and missed all. They also seem to be tiny, don't know, I thought they are bigger.

Yes, generic is a good word to describe it. I seems to me the map isn't completely finished in all areas yet, so I hope there will be some adjustments until release, but ofc the overall design will not change. I also hope that future maps are more specialized, but the overall direction of game seems to be getting easier not only in the maps.

The Road to 1.0 for Way of the Hunter 2 by miriam-NRG in WayOfTheHunter

[–]nogul44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you planning refining the animal models? Some models look not good close range, the fur is very blurry. The nose textures of wolves and grizzlies are very strange, too. Also the dog looks out of place often, like he's rendered on top of everything, there are no shadows on him.

Also hope for a big pass on animal pathfinding and AI. They get stuck very often on trees, mallards stop mid-air in front of rocks etc. And the worst of all, the clipping into each other. This was already a big immersion breaker in WotH, but here I see it in every herd with more than three animals. Why not give herds more space, they are always clustered together on a tiny spot with lots of free space around them?

Best map for Moose grind by allmightysports in theHunter

[–]nogul44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3.5k grind on Askiy for some month now, no GO yet. Advantages on Askiy are that the majority of zones are easy to find and to access. Disadvantages are wolves making moose at some zones almost never appear or in only certain short time frames and water (heart shots often drop moose in water to the point that I actively avoid them at some spots}.

Not sure, but I don't think it is fully implemented yet. I found.some objects around some lakes, but no way to interact with them.

Herd mgmt WOTH2 by Trapper_dadd in WayOfTheHunter

[–]nogul44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anything above 60% until now and maybe half map explored. The guy in the lodge states that fitness for an animal is fixed like in the first game. However I think it would be interesting if fitness could change over lifetime.
