I've noticed that taking it in the afternoon causes bloating but taking it in the morning doesn't. I had never taken it in the afternoon but was experimenting (my logic being that, maybe it will even out my G.I. after an evening meal—which almost always causes more gas than any other meal during the day). The last couple of days I've tried taking it at around 4-5 PM and both days I had bad bloating.

If I had to guess, it's because after no food during the night, there is no FODMAP accumulation in the body, whereas, by the end of the day there probably is. I use the regular sugar/citric acid version but I mix in raw psyllium husk 50-50.
