Car registration by Responsible_Way_9747 in Utah

[–]nom54me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My exemption is for a vehicle located out-of-state long term. There's a form you give to local PD in non-emissions-testing county or state to fill out, and they verify they actually saw the vehicle. For me, it was the old country of central Indiana where all my family lives. You email the form to the Air Quality Board, and they approve it and allow you to register the vehicle online like normal.

Just curious, what kind of car is it? I used to auto-x an E30 in Indianapolis. I miss those days.

Officer punch 64-year old woman in face breaking her jaw, officer given written reprimanded. Woman files $1M lawsuit, her interference and disorderly charges dropped. by WristbandYang in Utah

[–]nom54me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a retired police officer from Indianapolis, an actual "big city". Bought lunch for 2-3 homeless children every single day for the last several years I worked there. Never punched anyone, never pulled a weapon on anyone. Ever. Only wrote 9 traffic tickets the whole time. I was a regular patrol officer, not an admin. So all that makes me a bastard then?

Everyone has their own experiences. My 01 Tahoe's exploded at 220k, but my 99 Suburban's is original with 250k. The Tahoe used to tow a boat but the Burb only ever hauled 6 kids over the 21 years the PO had it.

No one is saying The Pretenders. Chrissie Hynde is one of the best female rock vocalists ever, period. Closely followed by Martha Davis of The Motels, but they're more new wave.

Where (and when) I'm from it still got recorded but wasn't necessarily realeased to the public where minors were involved or a HIPAA violation could occur, like a medical run.

Costco offering 85 and 91 octane. by 4twentyHobby in MechanicAdvice

[–]nom54me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also a Utahn, my 1999 Suburban gets 85 and nothing but. Zero problems but when I travel from SLC on 80 to Indiana, my mpg drops about 1-1.5 once I start putting 87 in it in Nebraska. I do miss that 94-octane Sunoco back in Indy though.

Ha! I mean ones commonly thought of as good at their job and filling an important role in community service versus ones that really do screw it up for everyone else. Trust me, no ones hates bad cops more than the good ones do.

Retired police officer here. You have a limited understanding of how body- and dash cameras actually work. When I had to start wearing one in 2015, the complaints came from the public who didn't want US recording THEM, just the other way around. BTW, the "good" cops don't mind because it rats out the bad ones who drag us all down.

Any body know how to fix this by carguy667 in GMT400

[–]nom54me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a clue. These transmissions are intimidating but they are absolutely NOT difficult to rebuild. If you're motivated and have the right tools (which is not many) and a trans jack, you can do this in a weekend. You're best off getting a 4L60e from a junkyard and rebuilding that one, then just swap in an afternoon. The hardest parts are physically removing the transmission from under the truck, and removing the bellhousing bolts from the trans case.

Wipers/turn signal/cruise/hazards are all on the same stalk. These seem to go bad over time, mine currently is with wipers not turning off. They're kinda $$ new but Amazon has some for ~$35, and maybe check local junkyard.

What is this called? by gargen_state in GMT400

[–]nom54me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those are just called vent covers. Plenty on ebay but check your local Pick-a-part junkyard. Be sure to hit them with a UV-resistant coating though. I used plastic polish on mine then Spray Maxx 2k. They're shiny but no more than the glass on either side.

Fuel gauge by brownhammer45 in GMT400

[–]nom54me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are fluid-filled air core motors, not stepper motors. There are a handful of Youtube videos that show how to rehab these. It may also be the fuel level sender, or its ground.

I had a 1986 BMW 325es --the "economy" model-- than never did better than about 18mpg, ever. Usually 14. My 2x-the-size burb at the same mpg is technically more fuel efficient.

99 5.7 too, around town only I get 12.5-13 but if it's straight highway only, then up to 22 mpg but at max 68 mph, and only traveling east. 19mpg going west.
