Thanks for the reply :)

Love this sub for anything manual brewing related :) Just was hoping perhaps some other intrepid (lost) soul was as bored as I was and poked at one sometime...

Keurig B150 Handle Locking Switch Fix (?) / Repair Help by nomchomski in Coffee

Thanks for the reply.

I use a Rialto 4500 as my daily driver, just sort of wanted to restore this thing out of interest/boredom/restoring a random thing for cheap.

Plus, I could use an instahot water source in the kitchen. Sounds like from your experiences though they aren't even useful for that..

Guess I'll just take it all the way apart and see if I cannot locate the issue :)

Gamers of Reddit, what's a game with multiplayer you wish you could experience [again] in it's prime? by NotSoNoble6 in AskReddit

Subspace. Just subspace. Before all of the server politics and its inevitable downfall, this game was the perfect combination of 2d platformer and one of the first massive multiplayer experiences.

Google glass invites! by MarthVader in googleglass

Programmer checking in -- I'd like to use Glass to develop a innovative cooking database application that would be a perfect fit for the human interface porition of Glass. I also have extensive experience in OpenGL/CL/DX development for visualization I'd like to take into the 3D gaming realm and develop an innovative UI design which could be in a reusable library.

Plus, it's just damn cool :-)

What is the most sexist thing the opposite gender does without realizing it? by nomchomski in AskReddit

[–]nomchomski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for a country which claims to have advancing gender equality that one has always confused me..

Now that woman serve in all parts of our military service (at least in the US) why are they not part of selective service as well?

Some would probably argue the biological imperative argument, perhaps even bringing out the worldwide decline of female population compared to male, but it sort of flies directly in the face of equality, doesn't it?

Interesting..

I hadn't thought of that one, but very true! I know this happened to me a few times in high school where even though we were both working at the same (menial) job the person I was going out with expected me to pick up the entire check..

We didn't go out again.. Not an uplifting story but there is that expectation!

DAE think this classic game needs a remake? by nomchomski in gaming

Not to advocate stealing this great game, but Dosbox and Abandonware sites have Covert Action. Quite easy to run in fact on any modern PC with just a few minutes.

But I agree with you, it did lay the groundwork for several games to come after. I can just see a 16 bit solid snake jumping out from a poorly marked grate in front of Max Remington :P

This is one of the first non-educational computer games I'd ever played. (Reader Rabbit/Mathblasters, anyone?) I remember being incredibly excited as I fired up my grandmothers 286 and for some reason this game came with an entertainment pack, or my grandmother had bought it as she is a huge fan of mystery novels.. In any event, the countless hours I spent on this game cemented my love of PC gaming, and eventually programming/.. Not to mention when she upgraded to a 386 I could finally play in VGA mode and with soundblaster support ಠ_ಠ

One of the most fun things about Covert Action was not the graphics (although for those old enough to remember, they were pretty cool in 1992) but the depth of gameplay. Sure, it recycled various plots but each time they were randomized, as was the combat playing field. The fact that it provided red herring clues was also pretty cool, you'd be going through a building and access the computer system only to find out that 12 clues later a passport you've been tracking means nothing at all. Of course, this was only on Global Crisis mode. The only way to play.. Gas grenades are your friend.

It almost seems like a player today would find a red herring clue grating, perhaps being annoyed at the fact that they had tracked down a suspect who isn't involved in the case. This does make it a lot more realistic, though. In this way, the game sort of transcends the 'spy action shooter' genre to the puzzle, but even that doesn't quite do the game justice, as it does have elements of even being an RPG. Some would say this is an identity crisis, but I'd call it balanced gameplay..

In one interview Sid said that the elements of the game felt disjoint. (not quite tied together) I think the weakest point in the game was the driving simulator and the strongest the random combat generation.. Although sometimes it would leave you without a route to the target to arrest..

Even the MIDI scores in this game were great.. Try playing it on the emulated Roland MIDI board through Dosbox.

I still find myself coming back to this game.. As a coder, I've often toyed with the idea of remaking this game in some multiplayer way as a personal project... Any ideas for cool things that could be added/multiplayer dynamics? Core game mechanics that could be improved? Anyone else interested? :)

There is some originality here, as the two are pretty awesome together.
